Tapering Valium - Ideas?

[Ka...]

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am new here! I have had a long journey with benzodiazepines and antidepressants along with Gabapentin (which I’m currently off as of last October 2018 yayy)!! These medications were all prescribed for anxiety and some depression. I was assaulted 11 years ago and that’s when I was put on all these meds.  I’m cutting back on my Klonopin in hopes to one day be off of it. My psychiatrist has been great, letting me lead the taper on how I feel. She switched me over to Valium for the taper. I am currently on 12.5mg Valium. I have dropped from 15mg (so 2.5mg in about 6 weeks). I’ve been having some bad depression and other symptoms. I’m wondering if I’m tapering too fast? I know I have been cutting about 10% at a time. I am familiar with the Ashton Method but my doctor didn’t put me on an equivalent dosage. I was taking 2mg of Klonopin daily. She switched me over to 15mg of Valium. Is that right? I had no bad side effects from the switch. I’m sorry I’m all over the place! My brain doesn’t work quite the way it used to  :-[ Just wondering if anyone has any advice on when to make drops. Do I wait until I stabilize? Or do I drop consistently on pre planned days? What do y’all do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m pretty scared at this point. The symptoms of withdrawal can be pretty bad. Thank you all so much for reading through this!

Hi

2 mg of Klono is about 30 of diazepam......please think about educating your doctor before someone else suffers.?

As klono has a long half life you somehow managed the switch and are doing the ten percent rule.

You have done really well but 6 weeks is a short time in benzo Gaba repair and I can’t tell you what to do but I would stabilise if it were me. Then go back to ten or even five percent as you wish.

You will have heard of reinstatement but unless you are in agony it may be difficult to know how much to go up, probably v v little.

If you are struggling tomorrow PM and I will send you link on it.

Lastly whatever you do you are in WD. It hurts, but you’ve done splendidly and other on here will no doubt help you too.

Google “benzodiazepine equivalent calculator” and show it to your doctor.?.. just a thought. -))

Sorry for short reply...

But yes, were it me, -in hindsight, I would wait..

You have had big changes, the C/O to V, and a big reduction..

Some can, some cant.. -let your body guide you off..

:)
