Looking for Support in the Tapering Process

[Ka...]

Recommended Posts

I am looking for positive support in tapering off Clonazepam. I reached the halfway point of my taper.  I am feeling overwhelmed by the symptoms I am experiencing.

The dosage I have reached is 1.25mg daily. Have been taking this medication for 10 years.

HelloKattie27,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! I'm sorry you've reached a rough point in your taper. For some of us this process can be challenging.

What kind of taper plan are you following? A slow taper is recommended to help minimize withdrawal symptoms. Generally, a reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested. I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual. It is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. The manual was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

I'm glad you've joined the forum. You'll get a lot of support and encouragement as you journey to be benzo free. We understand the process.  Please do ask questions, we're here to help.

Thank you Piano Girl. I sent you a note earlier but it disappeared. I have reviewed the Ashton Manual.

Tapered too quickly. I have been holding at 1.25mg for 5 days and still struggling. What I’ve read so far is helpful. I did not know what to expect. And I certainly did not expect to feel so badly. Reassured me to know I am not alone. Tapering plan was .018mg daily. Had to stop when I reached 1.25mg. from 2.50mg. Will continue at same rate when symptoms aren’t as bad. Reassured I am not alone. Can’t get out of the house...not beating myself up over this. Scared...from what I read to be expected.

Thank you for all the info.

Kattie,

As you, after years on Klonopin I am about 5 weeks into my taper. I'm learning firsthand what others have actually posted from their experiences.  Originally, from 2.0 mg K to 1.5 mg K it took about a month for my body to stabilize.  From that I've learned to taper slower. In my experience the last dry cut was just .1 mg K and that is going much smoother.  In two days I'll be seeing my doctor and learning about a compound pharmacy she knows about and how that works.

Experience will help you determine what is best for you.  You can do it and welcome to BB !

Welcome to BB Kattie. These drugs are incredibly hard to divorce yourself from even after they start making you sick from the ID w/d and the tolerance. This is a great forum and everyone here understands exactly what you are going through so you are not alone.
