I'm new to the site. I've been tapering down from 4.0 alprazolam since January. I was on that dose for about a year and a half. I'm currently on .5 am and .5 pm and am having trouble stabilizing here.  After 5 days of being completely off due to a pharmacy issue I've been back on the .5,.5 regiment for a week.  It's the first time in this whole process my sleep is being effected and again, having trouble stabilizing.

Hello Rosiegirl  Welcome to Benzobuddies!

We are very glad you joined our community. I am sorry you were forced into a cold turkey due to a pharmacy issue, that must have been rough!  We can help you with support, encouragement and taper/withdrawal information.  In general it’s advised to cut your daily dose by somewhere between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days.  Some need to taper slower than this, whatever feels comfortable, the aim is to try to keep symptoms manageable.

I would suggest that you familiarise yourself with the Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

You will find some very valuable support and information on the forum.  Our members are happy to share their personal experiences with you and support you.. Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

I'll leave you a few links:

I think insomnia is one of the worst benzo WD symptoms, for so many of us. We have a dedicated board.  I'll leave you a link, you can connect with others, you may find something that will help you.

Hi

Welcome

Are you having interdose symptoms?  With an 11 hour half life you may be getting dips towards the end of each interval.

I am not Xanax savvy but I hope someone will come along soon.

There is no disgrace in going slower!  If you decide to updose, you should not need very much as your Gaba receptors are mending already. I think you’ve done real well.!!

Good luck

Dickie
