Well first of all, I’m from Costa Rica, so my English is not the best. I’m 31, took Klonopin almost 5 years, and After a year of tapering, I’ve been 5 months off benzos now. As many of you, I’m having a very hard time right now, so I ended up on BB looking for information and support to pass this horrible path. Thank you in advance, love Luna ❤️

Hello Lunaliberiana,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies and congratulations on being benzo free!  It looks like you did a sensible year long taper, good for you.  While 5 months might seem like a good long time to be off benzos, in the world of benzo withdrawal you are still early out. I was still very symptomatic at 5 months. The good thing is that with time the symptoms will ease up.  Additionally, now that you've joined the forum you'll find others who you can relate to, who are going through the same challenging process. You'll get good support as you heal.

I'll give you a link to the Post Withdrawal Recovery Board where you can receive feedback from members.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual. Although it discusses tapering in detail, it also gives good information about the withdrawal process in general. The manual was written by Dr. Heather Ashton , an expert in the field.

Recovery from benzo withdrawal can take a while, but in my opinion it's well worth the effort.  Please do ask questions, we're here to help.

Luna,

My daughter is in your beautiful country for the first time, due to come back tomorrow.  She has truly enjoyed the trip, even though it was related to business, she has had a couple of days to explore.  Please tell us what type of symptoms you are experiencing and I am sure we can help you come up with strategies to overcome with your commitment.

Wow Thank you very much. Here in my country (and the whole world as i can see now) Nobody believes that this is real, so is great to be in touch with people that may understand what I´m going through.

My main problem is my lack of resignation, since I was having a very mild withdrawal the first three months, a little morning anxiety but I was sleeping 8 hours per day, and then I had this pressure in my head )now I now it was withdrawall too) and my doctor though that i was having a sinus infection, an gave me a cycle of steorids and now seems like I´m not recovering from that, I don´t know if other people had a very easy beggining and then all the symptoms started at month 4? or if it´s just the effect of the steroids that won´t go away.

I know that the moment I make peace with this, I´ll be able to deal with it, because now i keep blaming my self about the steroids.

Thank you for your kindness, and sorry for so many complains.

Wow, I hope that she has had a great time in here. And thanks for be willing to help.

Right now, I´m having like 2 or 3 hours of sleep per night, And panic attacks like 3 times per day. As I said, I was having a very easy withdrawal, so I´m pretty sure that maybe if i had not taken the steroids this would have been so much easier. Right now my mom, who has been very supportive trough all this process, want me to take an antidepressant or worse, she said she thinks that  I should take some doses of Diazepam, just to be back on track and recover my life (I´m a nurse, but I´m not able to work right now because of this) . I know she suffers when she sees me like this, and I can understand her, because sometimes even I think about to go back on benzos for a couple of weeks, until the effect of the steroids finally go away, but then i discover the waste of time and effort that would be.

Thank very much, I really can use the advice of people who are going trough this process too.

Luna, a big chunk of the sxs , imo, were probably brought on by the steroids and some normal withdrawals.  Steroids seem to cause quite a few people on here to have their symptoms get worse for awhile.  If you are on a long term steroid round, you might speak to your Dr if it would be okay for a shorter round of steroids, that must be the Dr 's decision.  Take it easy and rest, do your best to distract.  Wish you luck.  Oh, you may wish to hold, don't taper anymore until this has eased and you feel well enough to begin tapering again.  Love, Mary.  ♥️♥️♥️

You should check out the post withdrawal support boards here. There are lots of people where you are at going thru similar things. I know antibiotics are known to cause set backs and people avoid them. Steroids are even stronger so it makes sense they would do that.  I would def. not take antibiotics or benzos for sure that will just start things over and for some people made them worse. Lots of people can't work during w/d so take it easy on yourself. You will get back to it.

Thank you, I’m not tapering anymore, I jumped 5 months ago, I was having a relatively easy withdrawal until I took the steroids a month ago (I’m not taking them any more since then) but the symptoms  are not getting any better, panic attacks and terrible insomnia (the firsts months after I jumped I was coping very good with them, I used to sleep 8 hours and only had anxiety in the morning, after the steroids I’m not able to sleep at all and I’m having anxiety the whole day 😪 That why I don’t know what to do, I I should reinstate or just wait 🤷🏽‍♀️

Thank you.... I wish I haven’t , even when I knew it could cost me a setback I never imagined how bad it could get ... So I think I should wait and be patient, the only thing that scared me so bad is that people with similar stories say that the setback can long a year or even more 😪

Luna:

I too got hit hard with the 4th-month wave.  I suffered from multiple symptoms that became very livable after the 6-week mark and thought I was out of the woods.  In fact, I thought I was on cruise control for getting my life back!  About a week ago I was hit with not only multiple symptoms, some which had disappeared, but some new ones.  I had never experienced what I would refer to as oxygen starvation.  I was so concerned last night I was suffocating I got up after 2.5 hours of sleep.  The anxiety and impending doom then set in and when I do not sleep I have a lost day.  I hope I get back to normal sleep tonight so I can deal with the other symptoms as I have in the past. I may be down, but I am not out.

PS. My daughter really enjoyed your country. She said it was beautiful and friendly.

Please feel free to reach out if I can help but realize my hands are full!
