Hi there

I was on a gradual Valium taper for about 2 years, I have been Valium free now for about 3 weeks. I have been attending a rehab centre that have been fantastic but I am there first benzo attendee so I can’t really rely on them for support of what I’m going through. I’m grateful that my experience may help others in the future though.

My symptoms have been getting worse with today being the worst so far.

I’m finding it hard to put into words how I feel. It’s anxiety but not as I have felt before. Muscle spasms, weird feelings in my ears, aching joints..among other things.

I hope to just find out that this stuff is normal.

I would hopefully like to be a source of support to others too if I can be.

Welcome to BenzoBuddies!  We are glad you decided to join us.  You'll find a lot of support and information on this forum, which is the only one of its kind online.  Unfortunately, slow tapers do not guarantee a lack of symptoms once off.  The ones you describe are completely normal, and will improve in time.

For those starting a taper, we generally recommend starting out at a rate of 5 to 10% every 10-14 days, then adjusting the taper to suit your own needs.  Note: very short term users may be able to taper faster.

Withdrawal symptoms, which vary widely but commonly include anxiety and insomnia, often occur during a taper, but these are temporary and will get better in time.  In general, first tapers are easier, but cold turkeys or multiple withdrawals may be more severe and longer lasting.  Here are a few links to get you started:

Once again, welcome!

Hi, interested in your taper speed, could you please fill out your signature line, it would really help us to see the whole picture. Here is a copy of how to place your sig. Thanks. 💖 Peace and Healing.
