Ativan mistake

Hey guys

Im here because ive recently started experiencing withdrawals due to ativan.

I was prescribed it about 2 or 3 months ago 1 mg a day as needed for anxiety. Now i started taking it more or less daily because i would have moments of anxiety most days. i would still have breaks from taking it and wouldnt find my self getting unwell without it. 3 weeks ago a friend of mine gave me a bottle with 40 1 mg pills in it. this is when things got messy. i work full time and happend to have a week off work and was going away to a concert. Over the week before i went to the concert and the week of the concert i consumed the whole bottle. some days taking up to 5 mgs a day.  This was stupid and recreational. When i got back from the holiday i collected my next  script which is only 10 1 mg pills for the month. i tried to have a break day and started to feel ill by about 2 or 3 i the afternoon ( i had 1 and a half mgs the night before). I had a terrible headache, the shakes and nausea. That night i tried to take only half a mg but i couldnt sleep and took another half and mangaed to get a very broken sleep. The next day was the same. Now im back at work and while im at work im getting some nasty symptoms, im feeling very nauseous dizzy and confused, having palpitations and having a had time thinking straight and concentrating. I figure taking half a mg a day untill the symptoms stop and then cutting it should work but i dont know if i should tapper it more. i just really dont want to have a seizure and dont want to have to tell my doctor whats happened and get labeled as a drug seeker. Any advice anyone can give here will be appreciated as i really dont know what to do. Should i keep up the half mg a day tapper or is that too steep. Should i just go to my doctor and tell him whats happening and ask for a better tapper plan. the other problem is i dont really have the money to go see the docter. Anyway thats where im at

Thanks in advance

Hello Longwhitecloud9  Welcome to Benzobuddies!

We are very glad you joined our community.  I would come clean with the doctor and ask him/her for support with a taper plan.  We can also help you with support, encouragement and taper/withdrawal information here.  In general it’s advised to cut your daily dose by somewhere between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days.  Some of us need to taper slower than this, whatever feels comfortable, the aim is to try to keep symptoms manageable.

I would suggest that you familiarise yourself with the Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

You will find some very valuable support and information on the forum.  Our members are happy to share their personal experiences with you and support you.. Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

I'll leave you a few links:

I think you have down graded your Gaba receptors from earlier and need to taper as you seem to want to do.

I think your doc is asking a lot of you to do it from ten a month.

Read the Ashton manual, print off a plan and go back to your doc.

Then you can go to the liquid taper on home page and construct a long term plan.

I hope you have a partner to encourage you or a reliable person at work as you will have some dips ahead as do we all.

Dick

The Ativan group on here are very active and helpful as it’s such a bummer to manage the cuts !

D Best wishes

Thanks guys.

Sigh I think I'm gonna make an appointment to go see my doc tomorrow as this half mg a day doesn't seem to be enough to get me through, might have to see if he'll give me some valium too. Really worried he's not gonna support me tho so yea wish me luck :-\
