My case with zolpidem and lorazepam

Hello, my name is Dana M (not real name)

My first administration with benzodiazepines started when I was a little girl 10 years old . It wax prescribed to me after accident that I witnessed during that accident I lost my brother. It was for a small period like a month or so and my parents been told to give me half of a pill at hard times with inability to obtain sleep.

And the at around 17teen when I was depressed at that period I knew my mom took zolpidem to indulge instant sleep and I abused it because it was making me feel good and get “high” of course my mother did not know about it and when she discovered she hid them. So from time to time I would ask her and she’d give once or twice at some periods. It went on like this till when I got 28 healthy and free from depression, working full job and studying in university in evenings to obtain BA degree in psychology. Since it was hard for me to study and work full time I found myself at nights struggling to get asleep so I went to a physician and asked him to prescribe me the zolpidem drug that I knew all to well about. All went good I got asleep in ten minutes and ready as new for a new day full of work and studies and no time to even breathe till I get shower get zolpidem and fall asleep again for the next day and so it went perfectly for some time. Till the time when I noticed that one pill don’t get the same affect so I started to take two and after some time 3 pills.

4 years passed I was close to finish my degree but I realized I already was addicted and because I still need to work full time and finish my degree I kept on going taking 2-3 pill of zolpidem to get asleep.

Until August 2016 I got a seizure when I’m fully awake can’t move can’t breathe can’t yell for help -  I felt I was about to die and when I already almost felt that it’s over the seizure stopped and I call emergency- spoke to med sister and she told me please to change my position maybe my lying position was blocking my respiratory ways. I obeyed her medical advice and went to bed - in the morning my boyfriend now my husband told me that I had another seizure that I sat my eyes were moving from side to side and then I fell on the floor.

I then understood I’m in a big trouble and I had a feeling that zolpidem is the one thing to blame and me because of the abusing of the drug that was prescribed initially one pill per night.

I got to hospital got placed to neurological unit and been ther for 3 nights under observation that the neurologist evaluated as epilepsy is because of the typical description of my boyfriend- no body asked about zolpidem abuse but I knew it was the drug since I had side affects 4 two years that I told and complained about to the doctor that prescribed me the zolpudem for 5 years by then.  I got mri and eeg they didn’t find anything abnormal in the brain anatomy so they decided it was epilepsy I’m suffering from. I got released went straight to the doctor and told him that I it’s the drug - and the side affects of the drug abuse and I asked him to change to something less addictive and so he prescribed me the lorazepam 1 mg no side affects no epilepsy no seizures no jaw adjourning nothing . 3 years passed and now I’m done I don’t want this drug in my life anymore but it’s hard to fall asleep now and I never had panic attacks and anxiety and I do every time I try not to take the pill anymore it feels like all my body and brain overstimulated can’t stop thinking moving talking fast .

Afraid if I discontinue to take the lorazepam I’ll get convulsions or seizures.

This is my story guys,

I would like to hear your recommendations and advices how to end this nightmare.

Thank you

Hello, DanaM2019 — welcome to BenzoBuddies!

So many of us were told that these drugs are safe, when they’re clearly not – I’m sorry this happened you too, and I’m so sorry for the loss of your brother.

Don’t worry, you will be able to taper off the lorazepam and get your life back. The trick is to taper very slowly, and folks here can help you plan a comfortable taper.

I'm glad that you decided to join the forum. Our members have gone through benzodiazepine use and withdrawal themselves, so you'll find plenty of information and support here.

Here are a few links that may be a good starting place for you:

The Ashton Manual provides information that can be useful during any stage of withdrawal and recovery, and includes a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.

For those who are currently tapering, a starting guideline is that the dosage not be reduced faster than by 5-10% every 10-14 days, although some taper even more slowly than that. One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper somewhat faster.

Thank you very much. I’m about to meet my physician and tell him that his Taler plan is very fast( one day 2 mg tithe next 1 mg first week and then 1 mg every two days till the third week 1 mg twice a week ) all it got me is overstimulated wake for 40 hours unable to initiates sleep and disturbed by no reason.

Nonetheless, now I administer only 1 pill of lorazepam and try to get over with it sometime soon.

Thank you for your support.❤️❤️😍

Dana, that is way too fast, please fill out your signature and give us an opportunity to provide some help, I am not a Dr and I realize you are trying this your own way, but there is a very good chance you are going to run in to some rough times.  Mary 💙
