Gabapentin

Recommended Posts

I've been on Gabapentin 900 mg total 3x a day for nerve pain and electrical feeling and it helps a tiny bit, but maybe not worth it for the rest of my taper.  It makes me feel kind of high and manic and def hard to concentrate or take in any information/memory.  I've been on it for 27 days.  Should I taper off of it?  Does anyone feel like that?

I'm paradoxical to the benzo and have an extensive injury/kindled.  Just trying to survive it.  I'm also on Remeron 15 mg and Zoloft 25 mg.  The benzo is the main offender.  I had only taken Zoloft before this happened after 2.5 weeks of use.

I didn't want to become polydrugged but the benzo taper has been beyond horrific, but don't want to take Gabapentin if it's only helping a little bit.  Can it caue muscle wastage or is that an enormous amount of glutamate?

I have no idea but you are the ONLY person I've ever seen/heard say they had electrical feelings!  That's my worst symptom and if it gets bad it's absolutely unbearable--I mean beyond unbearable.  And it's a feeling I've not been accurately able to describe to anyone.  Gabapentin has been a lifesaver for me--the difference between not wanting to live and it being bearable where I can handle this.  It takes about 500mg at a time for me to really hit it right now. When I wasn't as low on the dose (I at around 0.5 mg Ativan a day) and symptoms weren't as bad 300mg at a time would do it.  The 500mg did make me a little drowsy at first but it was well worth putting up with that to get relief.  I don't get on here very often so if you don't hear back from me for a while, that's why. I'll try to remember to check back.

How long have you been on the gabapentin

Who are you asking? The other person said they've been on it 27 days and I've been on it over a year.

Think there are plenty of threads here by same title, and a Support Group, -if you havnt already found them... They are not that active so I hope you get replies here...

Tough call, for sure..  All "what ifs"...

Personally, I didnt have much issue on and off Gabapentin dozens of times, both on and off Valiun.. Daily doses and one off high doses... But im sure it took its toll in its own ways...

I also used its big brother Lyrica, -more as a taper aid thpe thing.. I had more issues with that, got tolerant and dependant fast, and had to taper...  Im not sure I would be so lucky with Gabapentin were I to use it now...

One thought might be to start a pretty firm taper and see where it goes from there... Just try to minimise "shocks" to the CNS, perhaps..??

I know they are not, but I tend to think of these meds as similar to a mild benzo, thus we all react differently...

All the best...

Hi,

I think you are on a high dose, wish could have the opposite effect needed. Depends on the person, if it makes you "high" try to lower the dose?

As I stated on another thread, Gabapentin acted more like an OD of methamphetamine on me, complete with auditory hallucinations and paranoia. Won't touch the stuff. Horrible reaction. And my doctor has tried to put me on it on 3 separate occasions, even though I sent him a 3 page report on my reactions! SMH
