struggling with muscle issues

I'm over 2 months off, and I'm still struggling with some issues.  Namely, if I do a lot of activity I'm finding my muscles all over just sort of lock up.  I got no idea what is going on here.  Every night, I go to bed and at least my left foot muscles get so tight that my foot curls up.  I go to sleep and wake up with that foot burning in the morning and it's driving me insane.  Sometimes it's both feet.  I have no idea what would give me some relief from this.  I still have burning spots besides just the foot and one of which is my face.  Anyone else going through this struggle and what makes this tolerable and when will it stop?

I’ve been off diazepam after a year long taper and my muscle issues were bad during that time, now they are extremely disturbing. Trying to stay positive though that it will pass in time.

I’m at 5 months off and still experiencing these muscle issues (and burning).  My feet and toes go in many different directions twitching/spasming.  It is painful.  I was told at 2 months off ... you are early in withdrawal, at 5 months off I’m still in early withdrawal.

We are healing.

I'm 2.5 months off and am experiencing muscle issues along with nerve pain. My leg muscles feel so tight sometimes it's quite unpleasant. I'm also experiencing stabbing pains in my feet, like someone is sticking a needle in me. It comes and goes, not all the time thank goodness. I know I'm early on in my recovery but I'm fed up with this already. I wonder what other nasty surprises my body has in store for me ....

Is your SI joint extremely tight as well?

Yes si joints very tight. After I fell and suffered a  contusion to the ribs I couldn’t lay flat for 3 months and had to sleep in a recliner within 2 months I had si joint pain and tested positive for neuropathy in last 3 left toes. I think in that case it’s more due to the fall than wd. I think something got pinched being in that reclined position for so long. After I started benzo wd other muscles started getting tight neck cracks allot. Legs crack if I bend down to pick up something. My skin burns to the point it hurts to wear clothes. The front of my thighs feels like sand paper has been rubbed over them. I get myoclonic jerks .

All my back, neck, buttock, shoulder and jaw muscles are extremely tight but I was on diazepam for the tightness in upper back after spinal injury and surgery.

Never had SI issue prior to WD but surgery site at L5/SI is extremely tight from WD.

Also right psoas, external oblique  and down sides of legs.

Right piriformis is so tight can’t sit on it.

No position is bearable.

Tight area in back at base of ribs feels like it is pulling my ribs forward out of place and twisting them and crushing organs.

My liver fells like it’s being crushed. My left piriformas muscle hurts allot. I can’t balance and require a cane to walk. I went through 16 physical therapy sessions and it corrected nothing.

Thanks to all for the replies.  I am grateful others are having the issue and at the same rate, horrified that so many folks are having this problem and seemingly without a way to suppress it successfully.  I'm not having luck finding a doctor that knows anything about this so it is really frustrating.  If I had thought for a moment that any of this mess was a possibility from taking one stupid drug, I would have never taken it.  I appreciate the feedback and wish everyone great luck in their recovery.  If by chance anyone has had luck with some sort of supplement or medication that helped them through this phase, please share.

I’ll tell you what I have learned. This is my number one issue, it’s pretty wide spread. I’m 9 months off. It’s much better sometimes, other times really bad. It’s a mixture of extreme tightness, profound weakness, and f’ed up coordination. Thankfully *most* the dystonic/TD nonsense has settled down.

1) the muscles are tight because they are weak. They are holding on for dear life because your propioception and neuromuscular control (balance) is f$&%ed. Your cns is giving bad input. Do NOT stretch the muscles, you’ll make them worse. I promise. Do gentle resistance exercises targeting the muscles that are tight.

2) Gentle aerobic activity followed by hot tub always helps even if it blows during.

3). A shit load of this is tension from flight or flight (or freeze). Anything you can do to calm yourself down or treat anxiety will help. My baseline is much better but ANY amount of stress kicks it off (toddler yelling, stimulation from just being at work even if I don’t perceive it as stressful).

4) heat does wonders, I have two xL heating pads. : )

5)deep breathing and sink into the pain. Tell yourself it’s tension, I find my body trying to hold itself in positions to avoid pain just making itself worse with muscle spasms.

5) cannabis helps me greatly with this issue, I use a very small amount in the evening. I’ve  tried most meds on and off label to help,  nothing really does and if anything may make my whole situation worse.

I am two months since jump.  Keep wondering if the symptoms I have been having are withdrawl or something else. Yup, leg muscles tight, restless, achy in joints, other areas like ankles, shoulders, elbows, lower back pain.

I agree on relief, heat pads, massage muscles, hot shower or tub, cannibis. Hadn't heard about limiting stretching out tight muscles. It is hard to hear this may continue for some time but good ti hear it will pass.

I have read mixed reviews on cannibis during withdrawl. However, I think it does help with pain and anxiety.

I got through two years of tough taper after 30+ years of Klonopin/Clonz. and 20+ on Methylphenidate. If I got through that I will get through this. Always helps to have support.

Not sure why stretching would aggravate. Wondering too. I saw chiroprator a few days ago to check my back. His exam came out okay. Said we might do xray to check disk spacing. I am 62 years young and not had any prior spinal back issues other than muscle pulls.

Heating pad has become my friend. I am in 24/7 pain, mostly in legs, but yesterday it really extended into shoulders and arms. The pain is, well... a pain. I am not taking any pain meds for it so far. I just try to tolerate and do things like heat, showers, friend's hot tub, walks, light movement. It gets worse when I don't move and sedentary.

My thoughts and heart goes out to everyone struggling. Time and support helps heal. 💕

This just torched the nerves /muscles/tendons in my right knee up my thigh where my femur had been crushed 40 years ago . I cant use my heating pad for that or it will get worse. The crawling burning pain is gone but have some pretty intense muscle pain now . There is a tendon or ligament that goes from inside my knee up my thigh that was so tight I really feared it might snap . Thankfully it did not . My knee twitches every hour in the same place and has for months  The morst though is that benzos were prescribed to me to relax the muscles in the gallbladder liver / surgical area after removal .

They should've just fixed the problem because now it is so tight in my gut that I have to use an enormous amount of laxatives to be able to go at all . This is a 6-8 hr nitemare . every middle of the night into dawn .

Benzo belly is gone , this is just along the surgical route . My gal bladder burst and so I had problems there anyway . I do use the heating pad for that every night .

As far as pot - everyone is different . I was a 40+ year indica smoker, I never could tolerate sativa , I don't like speediness. It helped me greatly through my taper but now I cannot touch it with a 10 ft pole . It really just ignites me . CBD either does nothing or nothing good.

Lastly , I have to face my non believing GP here for the last time today . This is in a heavily religious area my husband had a visiting nurses assignment in and it has been hell . He does thing I have POTS and drug related nerve damage but that's as far as this dude is going .

I feel badly for all of us that have to deal with non believing dr's . Most of which prescribe this substance like mad and seem to hold the controls after when or of we will be able to get anymore . Putting us in dire positions, causing horrible illness  and acting like they know nothing about it .

Ridiculous .

BD,

Sorry to read the heat won't give relief. You definitely have had a rough time. Yeah, really sucks about docs. My taper doc retired at New Years and then a battle over billing. My PCP is of little help after telling me to get off klonopin. She can only say, "I am so sorry." Okay from others, but need more from my doc. Docs really need to spend time educating themselves about wd symptoms and treatment. I had no idea I'd be going through this after off meds. I do hope you are able to find better medical care.

Right now the heat pad is wrapped around my left upper leg that is spasming as I type. Not much relief but maybe keeping from accelerating worse. A few hours ago it was forearms.  I just try to take it a day at a time and not dwell too much on worse potential symptoms, or drawn out ones ahead, rather on good windows, even if parts of days ahead until more healing takes hold.

Hang in there. Feel free to vent and share.

I'm still struggling with muscle pain, in my limbs. Went for a swim this morning and just got back from a short run, just over 2K. My calves are tight and I felt like I was running on lead legs  :-\  My first jog in a week. Fed up as running does help with my mental health, but this muscle tightness in my legs is a bloody pain. I'm trying not to give into it, but I hope it goes soon ....
