needing help in Xanax water titration

[Ch...]

Recommended Posts

I was prescribed Xanax and took it according to prescription: 2 mg per day for 21 months. When I started to cut doses according to my practitioner's advice (just splitting a pill every 2 weeks) I started to exhibit withdrawal symptoms. We continued anyway, not knowing any better. We have we educated ourselves on Benzo Withdrawal Syndrome and are doing a water titration which we started 4 1/2 weeks ago with what was left of the current dry dose of the Xanax pill. I am currently taking 85% of .25mg of Xanax a day by water titration. I am so miserable, and still shocked that this is really me. That all these terrible symptoms can be getting worse after so long. I am looking for help not only on how to cope with daily symptoms, but how to manage "life responsibilities" as I am a mother of 5 children (4 at home). Thank you.

Hello Chiara11,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! You are a busy person, taking care of 4 children is more than a full time job.  I'm glad that your practitioner is willing to learn about benzo withdrawal and help you with a sensible slow taper.  Your initial reductions were pretty significant and I'm not surprised you are feeling withdrawal effects.  Although the symptoms of withdrawal can be pretty horrible, they are temporary and will ease up with time.

We do have a dedicated board dealing with Titration. I'll give you a link to it. Additionally, we have several members who are well versed in this method and will be happy to offer suggestions and information.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual. It is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. The manual was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

Life responsibilities go on even through withdrawal. My hat goes off to you parents, I was lucky in that my children were grown and gone before I was put on benzos and went through withdrawal. You'll get through this and we'll support you during the process. We understand what you are going through. Please do ask questions, we're here to help.
