Worst Symptom Ever

Whats the worst side effect of benzo withdrawal?

I'm 3 months 18 days out. The worst lingering symptoms I've is rapid and irregular heart beat and Palpations.

I used to live a happy life. Now I want to end it myself.

I think for most people it went away quickly.

When will the Palpations end and heart stablize?

I think there is no specific one to be honest.  The worst one is the one that is most present and alarming at the time

Being terrified of your own thoughts and feeling like someone is screaming in your head 24/7.

Looping on something for hours/days at a time.

Racing thoughts and intrusive thoughts/memories.

Feeling like your thoughts don't even belong to you.

And of course akathesia.

If your thinking about ending it because of heart palpitations and rapid heart rate.  I wouldn't because you don't realize how much worse it could be.  More than you could ever imagine possible.

Hi Korni!

Sorry you have to go thru such bad OCD type of experience. Mine is also psychological. Intrusive thoughts of all kind. They debilitate me. That's not me. If I may ask how do you deal with them? And what kind? It's just from the past?  I tried not to force them out and it somehow works. Hope you get better!

Please check your GP does the necessary with and EKG and full blood workup including thyroid.

I hate the idea of you being so poorly that you wish to end to all. You can get through this but the symptoms need checking with a good physician --please!

Maybe you're having psych symptoms too because wanting to end it all is common during w/d and def. what I've been feeling but know not to do.

Yes apologies all,

Of course it could be withdrawal ****but an irregular heart beat is a sign of Atrial fibrillation which is common in thyroid disease and makes you feel rubbish.

Let trust Raiz gets the all clear and we can back him in the benzo issues.

Alot of us have POTS coming off of klonopin . I really do not know why , my entire autonomous nervous system took a huge hit - Heart BP, Gut and yes bladder . I am almost 5 months off now and I have to bee in a wheelchair because I cannot stand up for long without my HR going to 148+ .

In the first months it was 168+ standing  and 122+ sitting . I am mad as heck about this , how dare these Dr's do this to us . in my case talking me back into it after Id somehow safely CT'ed off of xanax for a year .

I try to drink at least a liter a day of fluid but really it does not help , My HR will sometimes go under 100 but if I eat/chew, talk etc it goes over 100 . all the dr's in the area cannot get off of "anxiety " and I am so sick of this .

I cannot turn anxiety and my heart rate off and on and off and on like a machine !

When I lay down or recline I am normal . Like at 45 degrees I am normal . My BP and bladder have finally stabilized ( I had to be straight cathed for over a month . , now THAT is awful ) my gut is almost normal again , sort of . My heart remains unstable . No beta blockers for me as if I walk long enough or lay down at night it will go down to the 40's-50's . Very unstable .

BP is getting better at 102-110/70 when it was 80/50 for the longest and my RN husband had to struggle to try to keep it up .

We are moving back to SoCal where I belong as this place is very religious and conservative and it leaked over to the medical profession as well . Some refused to treat me and others told me the only way I would get well would be to find Jesus and read the Bible . Very crazy .

We came here when my husband took a visiting nurses position and I got so sick with this I couldn't travel .

I hope to finally be checked out by a Dr at all . Just to make sure that this is really just withdrawal and not something that developed during the time I was taking this stuff , it has been alot of years and I have no idea .

I've not been to a Cardiologist but I've been to Endocrinologist and had some thyroid tests that came normal within range.

Almost all the GP's and doctors I've been to want me to have anti depressants and Benzos for heart issues.

Beta Blocker Propondol, 20mg works best for me. But I hate to take it every day. I take it ocassionaly when heart rate is too high.

My internal medicine doctor put me on Proton Pump Inhibitors thinking its a gastro reflux issue as the heart rate climbs after eating. But PPI's dont work for me

Only Propondol calms the heart.

Some times I think a vein will explode inside my brain as the heart rate spikes. It gets worse some times and I cannot control it.

Now a days my heart rate spikes when I'm going to deep sleep. Heart suddenly spikes with Palpations making it impossible to have a good sleep.

I'm 31 and all the doctors that I've been to thinks I'm crazy and have physco issues. I dont want to die but what can you do when you cannot figure out whats happening with you.

:( :'(

I hear you , for me I am a middle aged/older flower child female  so I am obviously insane .

I can even turn my heart off and on when I lay down . ugh

I had what you have for the first 2 months and was forced to go to the local er here and I have been asked not to come back . I dont't want to come back . The GP's all know nothing .

My heart was at 122 one afternoon at a GP and when he saw it he left the room and got a psychiatrist !

We left , I am not going to waste my time like that . I am just taking things one day at a time , I want to go home .

I just re read your post and I will say that the one GP who was able to see that this is not anxiety but is outside of his scope of things had diagnosed me with POTS and drug related nerve damage .

He did tell my husband he hoped that I o not have to stay on a low dose of Valium to control the heart issue and the gut issue . My heart really sank , my husband was in disbelief . IF that turns out to be the only thing that works , I will stay on for life ,period . I will never do this again . Almost 60 I am too old to withstand it . I am done ,

Hope you are off ppi as effects absorption of lots of stuff and cross reacts with 300 meds!

Do see a cardiologist......then you can relax and do your taper.

Just my view.

I agree 100% about the heart beat. For me that was/is the #1 symptom.

I am 1.5 years into my taper and I can say that it is now rare to experience this compared to the first year of taper. It is also far less scary than it used to be.

I remember having some suicidal thoughts when I started my taper. I just wanted it to be over. I would ask myself "How can I getrid of this?!?" and of course that 1 answer will pop into your head, but that isn't a solution to just the problems, it also removes everything I love about life as well. Sometimes I needed to remind myself of all the things I love about life because when in the thick of suffering it's very hard to see those things.

The things you used to enjoy will return. The suffering will go away. It's just that this particular problem we are faced with takes a VERY long time to get past and it is easy to lose patience and get sick and tired of suffering.

Find some tricks to get past the problems. Meditation, fresh air, exercise (I know exercise sounds like crap advice when you have a pounding heart, but LIGHT exercise or even just light stretching can help), inversion tables, hot showers, distractions, comedy, etc. Find as many tips and tricks as you can and test them out to find the ones that help you. Once completely off medication those tips and tricks are going to be all we have to get through the next 3 years of healing.

You WILL heal! Never doubt that fact. And when you finish healing you are going to be one tough son of a gun for having been through all this!

Most people I meet won't even admit to their faults or face their problems. You are taking charge of your life and fixing it. That already makes you tougher than 99.999% of the people I have met.

For that you will forever have my respect.

Worst Symptom Ever - Neuropathy.

It's 24/7 pain for me.  Throughout body.  When I'm in recliner, I have ice packs on r. foot/ankle, left thigh & upper left arm.  Feet/ankles swollen.

I put aspercreme w/lidocaine on left thigh.  Have 3 trigger point locations.  I think upper left arm is overuse b/c scalp's so itchy I frequently am scratching @ it.  I'm a complete mess.

Went to ER about 3 weeks ago; concerned about possible DVT blood clot due to the feet & ankle swelling.  Everything checked out alright w/heart.  1st time diagnosed w/mitral valve prolapse.  Heard of it.  Dr. said nothing to be worried about.  While I don't put any faith in anything a doctor says anymore (1 reason why I hadn't gone to a dr. or ER until it appeared the swelling was worse.  I believe due to being online for far too many hours the preceeding day), I've heard of mitral valve prolapse & know it is quite common & doesn't necessarily need to be treated.  I've also had a heart murmur from birth & part of me thinks that's what dr. might've heard.

My question to anyone else reading this thread...has anybody's sxs gotten worse, w/time, before getting better?  I'd anticipated being in this awfulness for quite awhile, but I'm @ 3 months post-jump & rather than holding steady, sxs seem to be getting worse.  I'd thought, perhaps, b/c I'd added ALA (alpha lipoic acid) in an effort to combat the pain of the neuropathy, but after a week of the increased sxs, stopped that.  That's about a week& 1/2 ago.

I'm getting particularly concerned b/c last night I had abrupt onset of diahrrea (w/out already being in the midst of a b.m.).  I still haven't eaten today, as I don't know what caused that.  Am concerned now, if neuropathy's striking intestines. colon or bowels.  (While I can certainly lose some weight...another sx. for me...benzo belly), I've had 2 bouts of c. difficile colities & this is certainly not the way anyone wants to drop some lbs.

My history & brief post of w/d sxs (ran out of space) is in signature line.  Appreciate hearing others' experiences on this.  Thanks!
