Hi,

I went through a very traumatic marriage breakup 3 months ago, and was prescribed 10 mg Ambien for insomnia, and 0.5 mg Xanax for bad anxiety.

Im a 52 year old male. Having to many side effects and horrible symptoms including memory loss and derealisation, and need support and a way to start tapering. Not sure which one to start with first and how?

Look forward to advise sharing and support with buddies within this group. Thank you.

Hello CyberA  Welcome to Benzobuddies!

We are glad you joined our community, you will get plenty of support here.  I am sorry about your marriage breakup, must be a very tough time for you.  I would start tapering the benzo first!    Ambien is not a benzo but it does impact the same part of the nervous system as a benzo and will need to be tapered in the same way. Z-DRUG SUPPORT GROUP

The rule of thumb is to reduce the daily dose by somewhere between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days.  It’s okay to go slower than this, whatever feels comfortable, the aim is to try to keep symptoms manageable.  You will find some very valuable support and information on the forum.  Our members are happy to share their personal experiences with you and support you.. Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

I would suggest that you familiarise yourself with the Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

I'll leave you a few links:

Welcome aboard

How are you doing. ?

You need to get off the Xanax by taper using liquid titration (in my opinion ) — it’s via the home page.

The Z dugs shouldn’t be done at the same time really.

With your divorce this isn’t going to be easy. So post often or P M for support.

Hi All,

Thanks for getting back and your support and advice. I didn't get an email back that peeps had responded, so my apologies. I just headed low and watched YouTubes until now. Will post my questions as still need lots of support!

Hello CyberA,

You can turn on notifications by going to your Profile>>Modify Profile>>Notifications>>Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic and hit save.  :)

I've had experience with Ambien, the incredibly short half life of the drug left me feeling jittery and anxious until the nighttime dose, it also left holes in my memory, as well it should since it's a hypnotic.  ???  I agree with everyone else, that the Xanax should probably be the first to go.  Choose whatever taper method you feel comfortable trying and we'll support you as you do this.
