Will Statin that lower your colesterosol also help your TINNITUS?

Will Statin Drugs like rosuvastatin that lower your colesterosol also help your tinnutis?  YES, maybe so! :)

However, it was found in the audiometry that, after statin use, all drugs caused to statistically significant decrease in the hearing thresholds at 6000 Hertz (p<0.05). Also, strongly increase was found in the Speech Discrimination percentages after treatment in patients using rosuvastatin 10 mg (p= 0.022). A significant decrease was found in the tinnitus frequency, duration, severity and degree of annoyance in patients using rosuvastatin 10 mg and 20 mg (p<0.05).

Nice. But the other side effect I do NOT want. Thats the problem. Statines are so bad.

Agree.  I still take Crestor both the first 2 months where painful.  After a few months the side effects go away

and at about the same time there was a definitive lowering in my Tinnitus suffering.

Then I tapered the Crestor and had a boost in energy and the tinnitus got worse after about 3 to 5 weeks.

Lots of delayed reactions here so it is very hard to point at any one fact.

Please do your research regarding cholesterol and statin drugs. Benzos aren't the only drugs we have been lied to about.

Statin drugs cause heightened liver enzymes. I've found that pharma pills mask one thing and cause yet another. It's like a cat-and-mouse game with doctors. A patient is given MORE pills to counteract the newest side effect that has come, causing polypharmacy. Whenever I read the word "significant" in a study, my alarm bells go off.

The worst part about it is that the cholesterol thing is a myth that is based on the bogus science of one researcher who had a theory that he refused to back down from, even in the face of evidence that disproved it. And of course the drug companies were more than happy to jump on that bandwagon so they could sell us yet another drug.

Taking potentially dangerous drugs to counteract a problem that doesn't even exist is just as bad as  taking potentially dangerous drugs to mask symptoms of "mental illness" that are either normal human emotions or that could be more effectively treated without medications.

If you stop/taper Statins you get exactly this: reactions "in delay". Same as benzos.

Are you totally off statins now?

I think only the most potent statins have even a marginal effect on tinnitus, looking at several papers.

I wouldn’t touch a statin of any sort.

I got my Gp to run the risks through his software.

If I took Atorvastin 40 mg it would reduce my risk of sudden death by 3 momnths.

If I exercise 40 mins a day it adds two years to my life expectancy.

I accept tinnitus is horrid......I have only had it sporadically and feel for the poster.

Mine went with betahistine, but I am sure that’s been tried.

My dog cured many of my illnesses  Blood pressure, anxiety, immune system, mood, allergies...

Just by putting me into the nature at least 2, 5 hours per day, no matter the weather or other circumstances.

I got her because I knew I could not fight against a bad conscious - and how I cursed the first year...

My boyfriend lost about 7 kilogram without any further exercising, just by going for walks with the dog.

And the dog is a sleeping aid itself -I mean, we did never run, we were more gently walking through nature

Its so interesting that so many things get better by just doing things were are built to do..

I'm reading Ben Goldacre's book Bad Pharma. All I can say is BUYER BEWARE.

I was put on Lipitor when I had a TIA in 2016. I immediately got off it as soon as I was out of the hospital. The doctor gave me some song and dance about it lubricating the blood vessels. I know a woman who has damaged legs now and can barely walk because of taking Lipitor.

When I was at the ER in 2012, because my LDL was a little higher than the HDL, even though my total cholesterol was 160, a doctor was mentioning putting me on a statin. She was supposed to be my doctor after that, but I found someone else.

I am back on 20mg a day statins (CRESTOR)  but the tinnitus did not get better for a month so it's hard to say why it got better.  When I taped Crestor my tinnitus was better and then 6 weeks AFTER the taper it got BAD.  That what I mean by reaction time.

Also statin's completely decimate the CoQ10 in your bloodstream.  To counteract this I take 45 mg per day of CoQ10

Here's a link explaining the connection and why statin users really have to supplement with with CoQ10

Statins have been found to reduce the amount of naturally occurring coenzyme Q10 in the body. Because coenzyme Q10 plays a role in muscle cell energy production, some researchers have proposed that taking a coenzyme Q10 supplement might reduce the risk of muscle-related side effects.Nov 11, 2016

Then again, CoQ10 is a known tinnitus reducing aid for some people.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17210337

I would never take a statin without using CoQ10 also at the same time but now I really do not know which drug was helping me.

On A side note my colesterosol went from 245  to 180 in only 60 days :D

It does work.

Just a side note, CoQ10 works much like vitamin K and even has some relations to it.  It is a blood thickener so you have to be aware of that. from the articles I've read taking a statin will thin your blood a little so maybe it will all work out by taking both at the same time.

Most of the bottles of CoQ10 like NatureMade actually contain a statin article you can read on the side of the bottle now.  It's starting to become very popular to take both together now.  Having a lack of CoQ10 can screw your muscles up pretty bad and  sometimes permanently and again it's not everybody it's just a percentage of the population that gets adversely affected so I always like to be careful.

CoQ10 helps to recharge your ATP in the cells and taking both together does not seem to create any type of interaction that makes either one of them less effective so it's a great combo but do your homework and reading to come to this conclusion like I did so always google it.

CoQ10 seems to be a pretty popular supplement for people seeking all types of health benefits

I take amla as a statin. It's Indian Gooseberry. No side effects, and seems to work as well or better than most statins. Just have to be careful to buy organic.

This is my go-to site for nutritional information, btw. Dr. Greger backs up all his stuff with real studies. Love his stuff, even though I occasionally eat meat and occasionally use oil.

Hi,

I started on Lipitor last month, and was wary of side effects.  They are minor, but my tinitus, which is usually very minor, has actually gotten a bit worse.

???
