Intersiting Observation

I have a unique story. I healed a good amount from benzos in 2014. Wrote a success story feeling great and then in 2017 spent an entire year drinking on weekends with friends that put me back in so far a 19 month disaster.

Here is what I have noticed from this experience.

1) It took me 11 months of drinking alcohol to severely kindle my CNS maybe even worse than my benzo detoxes (I had 3).

2) I am starting to think that it has NOTHING to do with GABA Receptors healing or upregulating in my case. I am referring to TIME it takes to get over all this again which is MANY symptoms.

When I started to get a few symptoms returning in late 2017 from kindling the CNS, I stopped having alcohol all together. I was fine and feeling great and would have been fine If I would not have been exposed to anything. Seems that when the system is kindled and hypersensitized, the nervous system can be attacked by many different substances that have NOTHING to do with GABA. My experience has been the following throughout the last 19 months after kindling.

1) I took 3 weeks of Benadryl that created severe akathisia and a load of other symptoms I never had after quiting alcohol. It took 16 months from that exposure to settle. However, my CNS was now worse than after the alcohol.

2) Dental work: As soon as the Benadryl started to subside, I flared up with dental work which then added new symptoms I didn't have before that. It took only 6 weeks to

get over the dental work CNS blast.

3) Exposure to VOC's and Formaldahyde. (This was the worst yet) I was living in a home with new furniture that was off gassing. I woke up with ACUTE benzo withdrawl feeling 19 months after my last drink. This caused massive nerve issues, akathisia, burning all over the body I never had before and more symptoms than I can shake a stick at. Took me 4 weeks just to be able to sit in one spot and not I added more symptoms like nerve sensations and pain running down my spine. This may take years to settle down. IDK

I guess what I speculate, is that its not WD from a substance but healing time in those who have been kindled severly is related to what we are exposed to and how hard it hits the CNS. With severe kindling and hypersensitivity, I feel I am not here Waiting for GABA A to upregulate repair. I think its about the CNS desensitizing and settling down due to kindling which in my case the first time around took YEARS and that was protected from the outside world cause I stayed in one room in a house the entire time. I was not exposed to anything that further shook up my CNS.

I sometimes feel that its possible GABA is working fine, but the real issues it the kindling, and everytime anything hits us that extends the severity of the symtpoms and the length of time to feel better and let the CNS settle. Its like living in a bubble till it settles down. Yes GABA I think is what is responsible for kindling sure, but once the CNS is in hyperexcited mode, anything that touches it wrecks it and then it seems im getting over what they call aanother set back. Each setback for me seems to be more severe and takes longer depending on what I was exposed too.

Indigo,

I had a horrible off-gassing reaction to a new mattress.  8 days where I could move a millimeter without excruciating nerve pain!  Dear God it was awful.

Whether or not you accept the theory of gaba downregulation is unimportant.  You understand that your CNS is overly sensitive and will react to things that normally wouldn’t cause a reaction.  Make sure you keep your windows open where there’s new furniture off-gassing.  Spend very little time near the furniture for awhile.  The off-gassing will subside eventually and your CNS will calm down.

Sofa

Sofa, they came to test the air in my condo. It cost me 1k. The lab sent back the results and my new Sofa and Table had my condo with HIGH levels of formaldehyde and also massive amounts of VOC's. Formaldahyde was at 89PPM which the CDC considers massively dangerous. I will call my attorney regarding the furniture company. Friends have been in my condo and are all fine. Even with high levels no one is affected but me. The kindled CNS is the reason.

I am out of the condo. However, I can hardly walk and the pain and akathisia is worse than it was in acute. I have been living in it for 6 months getting chipped away at. I am not way worse than I was 19 months ago and its so extreme I am sure it will take a few years to settle. Its now in my lower back where I never had anything before. It has not let up in the last 7 weeks.

It took me 18 months to settle from 3 weeks of Benadryl and this is far worse. I do not see me coming out of this anytime soon.

Like I said, I think benzos and alcohol can cause kindling. But I think recovery time is basically in SOME situations recovering from exposures after the benzos have compromised your CNS. Once a system has no firewall and has been kindled, what we are recovering from is the shocks to the CNS. I think that's why polydrug people have a much harder time. Lots of people off benzos are doing fair and then have exposure to an antidepressant, antibiotic or even in my case breathing in VOCs and get rocked. They get hit hard and I think long revocery time depends on how many times and how hard you get hit. Maybe the GABA is upregulated to some degree but the system is just hypersensitive and overactive. IDK
