Hi i’m new to bb i was prescribed diazepam 16 plus years ago off my doctor and kept on them on repeat proscription’s until 3 year ago when they said they could not give them to me no more so they tried to taper me off them but it was horrible to fast since then i’ve been left as a addict to find them elicit i’ve kept asking my doctor for help but she would not help me and before christmas i said to her i need help to get off of the diazepam she said to me go to the drug and alcohol treatment center and then i will help so january i started atending the drug and alcohol center in durham city whinny hill told them every thing and that i’m determined to get off of them ive been attending there for 5 months all ive seen is help for heroin addicts and got passed about to different workers with no taper plan put in place ive been told by them the only way they can prescribe is if i go into group meetings but ive told them my anxiety is severe and can not sit in a group not that i won’t but i can’t ive been taking 20mg of diazepam for the 16 years plus i’ve got myself down to 10mg with no help from the treatment center. the treatment center phoned my doctor yesterday explaining that i’d been attending for 5 month and that i’d said if i had gone to them that my doc would prescribe the diazepam on a taper she went back on her word and said i’d been on a reduction with her to be honest i don’t know were to turn for help as i really want to get off of these horrible tablets thee have ruined my life i hope i can get some help from this group or point me in the right direction thanks for reading my introduction.

Sounds as though you’ve been through a lot, trying to get off diazepam. Congrats on tapering down so far already. Your new buddies here will be happy to help you find your way to the finish line.

The Ashton Manual provides information that can be useful during any stage of withdrawal and recovery, and includes a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.

 

For those who are currently tapering, a starting guideline is that the dosage not be reduced faster than by 5-10% every 10-14 days, although some taper even more slowly than that. One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper somewhat faster.

Hi Bruce and welcome to BB. Leslie Ash provided you with some good links. The members here can help you and support you. It is possible to come off these drugs and recover but it is not easy or quick by no means. I encourage you to utilize this forum fully and explore all the different message boards here. When I am not posting, I am using the search feature and reading old posts. These things have been incredibly helpful to me.
