Hello, early recovery and lots of symptoms

Hi. 

I am 1 month free of ativan.  I took .5 twice/day for 1 year.  Went to a detox facility and did a 6 day withdrawal and stayed for the 28 days in hopes  of getting my generalized anxiety disorder and insomnia improved.  went in on 2 meds and came out on 6.  Feeling frustrated as I still have lots of anxiety, panic, and  depression  as well as strange sensations in my head along with tinnitis.  Anyone with similar feelings?

We are glad you joined our community.  Sorry you are having a rough time, Insomnia and Anxiety are common withdrawal symptoms.  We have dedicated boards dealing with these issues, I'll leave you the links so you can connect with others who can offer some ideas and help.  Medical detox is usually a rough road.  The nature of benzodiazepines is they need a slow careful taper, detox establishments tend to remove the drug far too quickly. 

 

It can take quite a while for the CNS to fully recover,  It will get better with time.  You will find some very valuable support and information on the forum.  Feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

 

I will put a link to the Ashton Manual, it is a definitive resource about these medications. It helps in understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

Welcome to the group! Yes, your symptoms are VERY common here.

Could you tell us more about your experience in the detox center? On bad days I consider checking myself in somewhere.

We’re there other Benzo Withdrawls there? How fast was the taper?  Sounds like you would not recommend this I’d be interested into understanding more.

Hi Mark

I would not recommend detox as I feel it was too quick of a withdrawal.  I was the only benzo withdrawal with most people there were for alcohol withdrawal and could not understand my level of discomfort.  I stayed 28 days hoping to be put on meds for my anxiety to feel better.  Went in on Lexapro and Ativan and came out on 6 meds and still extremely anxious.  My new psych now has me on 3. Lexapro. Gabapentin, and Seroquel.  After 2 1/2 weeks still no relief.  This site at least gives me hope that eventually I can feel better
