12 years on Xanax

Joined this sight to help anyone in the early stages of recovery. Also to seek advice in my long journey to recovery.

(Xanax)

I was 19 when I was first prescribed Xanax. I was having panic attacks, quit the basketball team, everything was hard. Waking up was hard. I am now 31 and 7 months off the Xanax. It took a near death experience for me to go to treatment and get off the stuff after 12 years. I was up to between 6-8 mg per day. My experience with everything from a 90 day taper in treatment... To being 7 months clear of the stuff has been nothing but terrifying, but also wonderful, horrible sleepless nights, but to finally having hope again. There is a way back to a normal life and I’m still learning. But every day gets a little better. I’m here for anyone that is thinking about treatment or what it’s like to quit or HOW to quit. Feel free to ask any questions and I’m happy to share my insane experience. Also looking for some answers for myself if there is anyone who has been Xanax free for a year or more. Look forward to hearing from you.

That’s awesome!! Good Work!! And yes I know what you mean...... the physical withdrawal sucked and was painful and weird and scary. Lost my coordination for like 3 or 4 days. Like literally couldn’t dribble a basketball and walk at the same time. But the physical stuff isn’t the hard part.... the mental part of the whole thing..... weird suicidal thoughts and creepy weird things going in and out of my mind and not being able to control my own thoughts was the hardest part. And I had never had these thoughts at any point of my life nor did I believe them. But it was scary.  Took months. That junk left...7 months clean and I’m still struggling to get on a normal sleeping schedule. Memory is better, still not what it was, but it’s improving, anxiety is getting better, way less panic attacks. Lol but I wonder every day how much longer till I feel back to “normal”... takes time, keep pushing through it. We will get there.
