Abdominal and oblique muscle tightness?

[Aj...]

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have very tight abdominal and oblique muscles?

Up under my ribs is rigid and it is hard to work out if it is coming from my very tight back muscles.

It feels like my lower ribs are being squeezed in and all my organs are being crushed.

Also abdominals all the way down are sort of pushed inwards from the sides and clunky and lumpy.

Also external obliques esp on right is so tight it contracts hip up to ribs.

Psoas very tight.

Hardly surprising given your past medical history, but I believe the body is amazing at healing and would plug away bravely as you always do. Small steps !

Best wishes

This has been one of my primary withdrawal symptoms for the past 8 months. I find massaging the muscles between my ribs and under my sternum helps reduce some of the tension and pain which then allows me to breathe normally. I wake up in excruciating pain every morning after about 4 hours sleep with spasms and pain in those muscles.

I also have benzo belly and IBS which cause my bowels to go into spasm/pain. I'm essentially disabled until about 2 pm in the afternoon when the pain and spasms lessen somewhat. I use a foam roller and a soccer ball at various times during the day to massage my entire body but especially my lower back, flank and abdominal muscles. And it doesn't seem to be getting any better since I stopped the benzo in January of this year.

Thanks.

Did it feel like it was forcing your lower ribs together and upwards?

Did it feel like ribs were being pulled out of place?

It is hard to tell for me of this is related to severe back contracture at that level and where vertebra has been forced forward.

No, there's nothing trying to move my ribs. The only thing I experience is the muscles between my ribs, especially in the front and sides, are in spasm and in pain. The spams keep me from expanding my ribs which prevents me from taking a normal breath.

@Depibs, do you feel a lot of tightness in these areas too?

For sure. Muscles from my armpits to my feet are tight and full of tension. And there's a great deal of pain in my ribs, lower back, abdomen muscles, bowels (spastic colon), butt and thighs. In 2018 I would do 30 minutes of aerobic exercise most days on a bike or elliptical machine but the last 6 months it's all I can do to walk 30 minutes it's so painful. But if I don't walk and spend another 30 to 45 minutes foam rolling my muscles and then stretching on a daily basis, I'd be so tight and in so much pain I'd be totally disabled.

One thing that likely makes my withdrawal symptoms more severe than most on BB is the fact I also have fibromyalgia and IBS. I had them before I ever started taking lorazepam.

This started for me almost 2 ,moths ago and has not let up. I've had almost every test done and all were fine. The tightness is causing me so much anxiety because I feel like I can't get a deep breath! It's horrible. I can only pray that it lessens the more I reduce my Xanax. Just reading these posts is helping since I had myself convinced that it was something serious!!!

Keep us posted and I'll do the same.

Same here Lori. I wish there was a quick way to release all the tension.

This is one of my last remaining symptoms.

Plays hell with my digestion, breathing, and sometimes sleeping.
