Next Taper problem

[Fr...]

Recommended Posts

My husband had a detached retina and had surgery this past Monday May 6th. As of this moment he can't do anything but stare at the floor. I have to take him to all follow-up appointments and do any lifting around the house.

My next taper is supposed to be My 25th, dropping from 3mg of K to 2.5mg. In my past tapers I know I am useless for about 10 days and not fully well for about a month.

But, my last two tapers I dropped a full 1mg.

I know I'll still feel like crap but maybe as much since it's a smaller cut?

Should I even taper just yet? I'm thinking of "holding" until my husband can at least drive himself around. But I also want to taper and not stop the progress I've made.

Any suggestions, insight, or experience would be great.

Thank you in advance

IMO I would hold. I only drop 1/4 every 7-10 days from 4mg lorazepam. Now at 2. That wasn’t too bad.  Best wishes

Well, should you decide to hold a bit, im pretty sure your body will make the most of it behind the scenes... Its not unreasonable to think it could put you in a stronger position for when you resume.. -just a thought..

Just the smaller cut might be enough to make all the difference..??

Either way, -Best wishes...

I think you have tapered at one heck of a rate.

Whatever happened to The Ashton advice of 5-10%-?--though I see you do hold often enough.

I would go slower --its not a sprint but a marathon and the concern about your man will be in the mix!

Just my ten pence worth

Best wishes

Dick

Hey Fresh--

Sorry to hear about your hubby. If this were me, I would personally hold until your husband has recovered some. What caused the detached retina? Glad he is ok!

Well, we're not sure what caused the retina to detach. He has an uncle that had it happen to him so it could be hereditary. He's not THAT old yet 43, but aging is also another "reason". And in his 20's he had lasiks on the affected eye, and 3 years ago he had a blood clot in the affected eye which caused a stroke. So that eye has been through some things.

I'm hoping by the 24th He will be able to drive himself to appointments. I will just have to wait I guess and see how he's progressing.

Thank you for your reply

Yeah, My shrink was not impressed with the Ashton. I have been trying my darnedest to find another shrink. But nobody is accepting new patients. I plan on taking in this Withdraw method (https://wa.kaiserpermanente.org/static/pdf/public/guidelines/benzo-zdrug.pdf)  to my next visit. Maybe looking at two resources that suggest a 5 to 10% cut will open his eyes. But for now, I am at his mercy.  :-\

Be tough. If you need more ammo I have papers sent me from bb friends.

Lasered eyes for short sightedness more likely to detach, I hope he was warned.

I don't think he was warned (that I know of). Lasik was pretty new back in the 90s. But his blood clot disorder has not been easy to deal with either, with all of this. The surgery was pushed back three times because his blood was too thin.

Now that the surgery has been done, his blood is too thick.

I've been SO EXHAUSTED. I NEVER nap, but his eye surgeon is 2 hours away and I'm doing all the driving, shopping, picking up scripts, taking care of the house, etc...I've been knocking out for 4 hour naps and then going to bed at 9pm.

If he is not cleared to drive in two weeks I'm going to have to tell my shrink I have to "hold" the taper. My nerves are working triple time.

It really Sucks cause I want off this crap!

Thanks... :)

Yes, -its pretty easy to substitute the keto topic for Benzo, imo...

Just a little validation, as I know, as many do, the struggle against the medical "system" in some situations...

Hope you get a break soon...
