Was on Xanax for 11 years, started when I was 21 maybe younger but daily after 21 I’m now 32. Started with 1mg daily it was a magic bullet for me it took away all anxiety & doubt that I had which I needed to sell better I was working as a mattress salesman for a decade & this made my commissions higher so it stuck! Every couple of years I went up 1mg as to have some type of effect, then 5 years ago my father had a massive stroke at 71. He couldn’t speak or move his right side of his body, my sister slept in his hospital room for 3 months every day hoping that he would get better... he didn’t, I knew it was his time... after that I got really bad I began drinking every day mixing atleast 2 bars or more on good days(2 mg per bar) I loved IPA’s strong beer maybe 9% per beer 4-5 beers a day did this from 28 yrs to age 32, now I’m 8 months off cold turkey no alcohol either but things are getting wierd for me. No parents, no more money, no girlfriend, no job, no real family or friends to help or care for except my sister which I’m so grateful for! I could go on & on about problems but what’s really messing with me are these wierd muscle & spine problems I feel as if my whole body is locked up & my spine & muscles are either real tight or like jello- it was much worse before but would like to know if anyone has anything like this... almost like every vertebrae or every joint is out of whack not pain but just awkward posture & movements sometimes I think it’s dystonia

Hi Jlitell  Welcome to Benzobuddies

I am glad you decided to join the community,  you will get plenty of support here.  Congratulations at 8 months benzo free! and  congrats on your sobriety!  You’ve had a tough time, I am glad you have your sister’s support.  Benzodiazepines are a muscle relaxer, when you stop taking them, the muscles can tighten up.  The CNS gets thrown out of whack by the benzos, it will take time to reset. The muscles will relax eventually when your nerves heal.  Hang in there, it will get better with more time.

You will find some very valuable support and information on the forum.  Feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

The Ashton Manual is a definitive resource about these medications. It helps in understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

I will leave a few links for you to check out:

Professor Ashtons Manual

Cold Turkey Detox & Rapid Withdrawal Board

Post withdrawal recovery support board

Please feel free to ask questions, members can respond with the best information if they know your medication history so I will ask you to create a signature line listing your medication and dose.  Go to the top of the page and select PROFILE then choose forum profile then insert drug history into the text box and remember to click change profile

Welcome aboard

Magrita

Welcome to the group & congratulations on getting off these awful drugs!  Unfortunately it's not uncommon for people to suffer from long-term WD symptoms from Benzo's & Alcohol. But hang in there, it will get better with time..  Take Care- Laydefish
