Akathasia Mental anguish

Hi friends

I have taken the trouble to look as past postings but I hope you don’t mind helping me with my story.

As a doc I recognised restlessness and gave support and usually Librium BUT akathasia was never taught to us at any stage.

Anyway I am in a pickle.

I reduced Diaz several weeks ago and jumped off 25 off Sero two weeks ago (it made me restless years ago but had settled)

I was fine for 4 days then very anxious and popping Diaz and phenergan.

Could not bear it so took 12.5 Seroquel two nights running.

The last two days I have felt so edgy and OTT with overthinking and restlessness.  Noise avoidance and wanting to cling (yes really) to family or friends or even postman. TV thrillers gave me blind panic!

All I could do was try to sleep and eat nibbles as too sick to cook. Taking three showers a day!

So I wonder if it was the concomitant dip in Diaz and the reintroduction of Seroquel?  I have propranolol and Diaz but reluctant to updose Diaz.  Will use propranolol freely. RED WINE is recommended and has helped in the past but I stopped it to help benzo recovery.

I realise I have been texting and phoning folk about 2 x as often and thus being a nuisance. I need folk near but can’t stand being trapped by their presence.

I am not manic just hyper vigilant and distraught.

Is this Akathasia and what do I do having stopped the Seroquel of course!

Thanks so much

Dick

Hi Dick,

I'm sorry I haven't read all your posts, so I don't know exactly what you've tried, but you may find this post from Altostrata useful. This user knows more about withdrawal, tapering, reinstatement etc. than any doctor.

https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/7562-about-reinstating-and-stabilizing-to-reduce-withdrawal-symptoms/

You may want to get some liquid for the seroquel to slowly taper what you are currently taking. I don't think you want to be going up and down on dosages like that. I know 12.5 Seroquel seems like a very low dose, but to a hypersensitized nervous system is can be a shock. Whatever you do, you want to keep things slow and stable and be careful to avoid trying or reinstating powerful medications like Seroquel once your system is hypersensitized and the syndrome sets in. Anyway, I don't want to just repeat what Altostrata says in less clear terms. Let me know if you can read what is at the link. I can't remember if you need to be logged in to read it or not.

Hope you start feeling better soon.
