I was in rehab almost 4 days, but, they gave me a dif. benzo  to replace my ativan. it's not like i cold turkeyed, however they DID reduce dosage each day and last day when i just left i had none, i was seeing things and hearing things.  almost caused 3 major accidents driving home.    so, when you guys take about CT in rehab are you including the switiching of one benzo for a lesser benzo. or do you mean absolutely no benzos at all.  if you don't understand my question, cause i am scrambled, please just ask me to rephrase it.  ALSO , am i the only one been on benzos for 10 years?????  seems everyone else has short terms like year at most.

No you’re not scrambled. Sorry to hear you went through that. I consider a detox like that cruel and they shouldn’t take anyone off benzos that fast.  I was on for over 12 years. The first time I got off I went through a 10 day detox (they switched me to phenobarbital). That and what you went through is a CT. Doesn’t matter if it was a barbiturate or another benzo. If you go off that fast it’s a CT. My second taper was about a month and that’s still considered a CT or rapid taper.

Cathy,

Xanax 12 years. CT.  I’m in month 5 since CT and totally scrambled still.

Sorry you went through that at detox.

Hi Cathy.  I was on xanax, at high doses, for 13 years.  We have members who used benzos much longer than that.

I'm sorry about your detox experience.  My 4 day so called detox was a cold turkey plain and simple, and the symptoms were so unbearable I eventually reinstated.  That was 10 years ago.  The people who run these businesses are in it for the money, at least here in the u.s.  I'd never advise anyone to put themselves through that.  Almost all American detoxes ct their patients, so yours was unusual.

THe fact that this detox facility let you drive home after this C/T (yes it was); tells me that they have NO clue about Benzos.  Sorry.  Acute will last quite some time so accept the process.

Leslie, how long do you mean?  and if they gave me a benzo to replace my regular benzo how is that considered CT?

Thankyou kindly to all you people that responded to my post.  But, i am still not sure about what i went through is CT.  i mean, since they gave me a replacement benzo for my Ativan, it's not cold turkey, IMO and logic.  CT to me is like when someone just stops drug and no replacement is even given.  nothing.  so, i am not sure my rehab stint was really considered CT.  because they did give me a benzo.  however, the process of being there still was mind numbing.  i wish someone would have told me not to go. it was horrible.  but, i don't consider it CT.

Cathy, can you be a little clearer about your situation? And what dose of what you're on?

If you went to rehab for 4 days to get off your benzo, why are you on another one? Or is it the same one? Reading some of your other posts, it seems you are on Ativan. Which is what you were on when you went to rehab. So what's changed??? I'm confused.

Maybe if you create a signature, we could help you better.

hi, i am sorry, i don't know how to do a signature.  to brain fried .  can't do simple tasks.      ok, i was and am on Ativan.  10 years.  i went to rehab for help getting off hydocodone, but, they proceeded to take me off Ativan, too.  i should have left day 1.    they substitued my ativan in rehab with Serix or however it's spelled.  so, i was never NOT off a benzo.  just was not on my ativan in rehab, see?    and, when i left, i was so sick and hallucinating and high bloodpressure i almost cause 3 car accidents driving home.  I PUT myself back on ativan the minute i opened the door of my apt.  to stabalize me.  now, i have been tapering for 3 weeks. 3 mg down to 2.75.    however point of my post is, how can it really be considered CT if i was never w/o a benzo in my system during the 3 days of rehab.

Cathy, if you can write the post above, you can create a signature.

CREATING A SIGNATURE

To do this, Click on 'Profile' then 'Account Settings', Then 'Modify Profile', in the drop-down list click 'Forum Profile'. From that page, scroll down almost to the bottom and type in your info in the Signature box. Make sure and click 'Change Profile' at the bottom. And that's it!

Okay, I get it. Don't obsess about the CT terminology.

So you're on 2.75 mgs of Ativan and are tapering down. Good!

But as Megan explained, creating a signature is dead easy. Then we could all see your history and could help you better.

Cathy, just write a brief drug history and what you are on now, plus the rate at which you plan to withdraw (or are withdrawing).

Maybe take a look at some other buddies' signatures for inspiration.

No and yes... Your body probably feels like it did a CT...  -Well, didnt it..?? -From an opiate...

Not to mention the abrupt transition from one benzo to another, and its cessation within 4 days in conjunction with that, -and back again...  Not only Cessation, but Change can have its effects...

So looking forwards, -Some stability might be worth considering... -up to you...

Did you reduce the ativan dose at all with its re-introduction... ??

Just how dependant were you on the opiates..?

Is addiction rather dependance a significant factor..?

-You dont need to answer, but these are things I would consider if moving forward...

:)

Cathy,

If the rehab place switched you to another benzo, are you OFF it now or still tapering? I need to know a bit more.

Switching you to another benzo is NOT going CT.. CT means one abruptly stops taking ANY benzos. And that is what I did, but I had no choice in this. And I am GLAD this happened. I was also forced to go into a "detox place," but the detox unit had no beds open so I was placed on an acute psych ward. OMG, that was the absolute worst thing to do to me.

I know now that the only darn thing that was wrong with me was BENZOS. I had to go CT and I do not regret this at all. Yes, WD was awful. Yes, I thought I would never heal. But I DID. And now I am truly normal person and so much healthier than I have been in maybe 25 years. Benzos did so much damage to this old lady.

Give us a bit more information and everyone here will try to help  you. This can be gotten through and I am living proof.
