Going out of work. Questions.

I'm going to be taking FMLA to use my 5 weeks of vacation time intermittently (I saved over the years) in lieu of sick time (which I burned through). I hope to not have to go out continuously with Short Term Disability, but that's always on the back burner. Is there anything I should or shouldn't have the doctor write on my FMLA papers for my job? I ask because most people don't recognize Benzo WD as serious or long-term and I fear stigma if I use "anxiety". I take days as I need them and work during windows. Any suggestions from people who went out of work temporarily?

My doctors and options:

Cardiologist who probably won't fill out FMLA as I have non-life threatening arrhythmia.

Psychiatrist- will put me out with "anxiety" or "idiosyncratic reaction to medicine. He's very unreliable and I've been trying to call him for two weeks. He doesn't believe in benzo WD and he worked in a detox.

Primary Care- Also doesn't beleive in Benzo WD but said he would put me out with "anxiety"

Pulminologist/Sleep Expert who acts like a primary care- probably the most sympathetic and willing to help but I don't have pulmonary symptoms. He sort of recognizes Benzo WD but is part of the "just cut the pill in half for a week then stop taking it" cult.

Not sure if I posted in the right place but this isn't a support question. Thanks

I had this issue. Most std will not not cover mental issues so if you are having dizziness, pain etc I would use that instead.

Thanks for replying. I’m pretty sure you can go out of both FMLA and short-term disability for mental health reasons. It’s a federal program. Where did you get this information?

I took time off using dizziness and migraines.

While it’s not true for every organization or job type, where I worked, and in my field, having the stigma of issues with anxiety is a real liability.

It shouldn’t be, but it is.

That’s a big factor worth considering, unfair as that seems.

A lot of disability coverage has limitations for mental heath, ar least long term. Mine is 12 months max for anxiety/depression. Not sure about short term.

My employer uses a third-party insurance company for short term disability, and the medical diagnoses is kept confidential. Is this not the case for other companies?
