Ive been benzo free for a year now but im still suffering from social anxiety. My social anxiety seems to be like it was nearly 3 years ago when i first started taking benzos to overcome the issue. Im just wondering whether i should arrange to start an SSRI programme with my GP. Has anyone had any experiences with SSRIs helping with social anxiety.

I take 50mg of Zoloft and it is definitely beneficial to me for Generalized Anxiety. I will never take another Benzo, but will take zoloft as long as I feel like it is effective and beneficial. I know not everyone will agree with that, but it works for me.

I had social anxiety before all this too, but what I'm going through now is not just social anxiety. It's a million times worse.

Niche,

Unfortunately, if you had social anxiety prior to benzos you may have it after (plus wd anxiety).

Thats reassuring to hear, thanks. How long have you been on zoloft?

I have used zoloft prior to benzos, with much success and no sfx. I quit taking it prior to my benzo taper. Just recently began taking it again and feel like I am on my way to recovery. I still have a few benzo related sfx, but no more anxiety or depression. I was struggling with both during my taper and several months after jumping. Zoloft worked for me. You may have to try a few different ones to find the one that works best, but like I said, It may not be for everyone, but it has been a tremendous help to me. I hope you find what works for you and find some relief soon.

Take care,

Fp
