Klonopin withdrawal

Recommended Posts

I started using Klonopin 17 years ago for insomnia. I also take Effexor (150 mg) for anxiety. For the last 10 or so years, I have used .5 to .75 mg at night and usually slept pretty well. In early December 2018, I stuck to .5 mg and supplemented with Melatonin as needed. I had heard how long term use can be really bad and finally met a psychiatrist eager to help me get off of it. Four weeks ago, I started 25 mg of Trazadone and cut to .25 of  Klonopin. After a few days, MD upped Trazadone to 50 mg.

I saw the doctor again and she recommended I switch to either Klonopin every other day, lowering dose to .125 or stop it completely. She also raised dose of Trazadone to 50-100 mg as needed. I chose to stop it completely.

My sleep has kind of stunk since then and I feel a little nauseous and more anxious. Curious if others tapering Klonopin have found it easier to go every other day rather or use the .125 mg.

Thanks

Hi nodakpdo  and Welcome to Benzobuddies

We are glad that you joined our community, you will get plenty of support here.  The safest and best way to taper off benzodiazepines is to stabilise at a set daily dose before starting a taper.  In general it’s advised to cut your daily dose by between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days, this is of course depending on how you feel.  If symptoms get too much, then you might decide to cut less.  The goal is to remain as functional as possible whilst moving forwards.

Check out the Ashton Manual, It’s great for understanding the effect benzodiazepines have on our body.  It also provides tapering and withdrawal information.  You will find some valuable support and info on the forum.  Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

I'll leave you a few links:
