Hello, have been on Clonazepam 1mg qid for many years.

In recent days, have discovered it does not help my Anxiety Disorder/Panic attacks at all- somewhat paradoxically it's making it worse-- yet; am knowledgeable enough to know I cannot withdraw cold turkey.  I am afraid, but I am tired of being dependent on a pill/Doctors who want to give me even more pills (horrible side effects from SSRI's for me) to feel human.

Prior to Clonazepam-- I used Xanax for years-- that was a tough one- up and down.  I do not like the Clonazepam as much as I liked the Xanax, but I WAS abusing it.. (easy with Xanax) Always honest with Docs "Do not give me X!"

I hope to embark on this journey soon; with the help of my GP. Perhaps-- merely tapering down the dose will make it work for me again?  Dunno.

I kicked Morphine and Propoxyphene on my own (they were prescribed-- but I found they did not help with my physical pains-- they made them worse)-- Those were rough journeys... Benzos?  This is mighty scary.  They helped me through detox from the Morphine and Propoxyphene (cousin to Methadone).

I am tired of being tethered to a Doctor to script me Clonazepam... no freedom in that.

I wish all here well... and safe if you are on this journey.

Hello, Deyzanne — welcome to BenzoBuddies!

Congrats on conquering those other drugs – you’ve come to the right place to finish the job.

I'm glad that you decided to join the forum. Our members have gone through benzodiazepine use and withdrawal themselves, so you'll find plenty of information and support here.

Here are a few links that may be a good starting place for you:

  General Taper Plans

  Titration Taper Plans

  Withdrawal Support

Please take a moment to Create a Signature — you can enter your pertinent drug and taper history in the box at the bottom. This will allow members to see where you are in the process, so that they can better support you.

Looking forward to seeing you on the forum!

The Ashton Manual provides information that can be useful during any stage of withdrawal and recovery, and includes a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.

For those who are currently tapering, a starting guideline is that the dosage not be reduced faster than by 5-10% every 10-14 days, although some taper even more slowly than that. One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper somewhat faster.

Thank you for the kind welcome.  Most appreciated.

Not feeling too well today, so will get to the signature part another time, if that's all right.

Again, thank you.
