Hello, I am joining this forum to gain insight from its many members into the journey on which I am about to embark.  I have been taking .5 mg Klonopin for over 20 years.  It has become a nuisance and obviously has no therapeutic value.  I am working with a psychiatrist to establish a taper schedule.  From what I am hearing, the Ashton method may be the way to go to minimize effects.  Thank you all in advance for your words of wisdom.

Hello, Lookinup — welcome to BenzoBuddies!

Congrats on your decision to taper off Klonopin.

I'm glad that you decided to join the forum. Our members have gone through benzodiazepine use and withdrawal themselves, so you'll find plenty of information and support here.

Here are a few links that may be a good starting place for you:

  General Taper Plans

  Titration Taper Plans

  Withdrawal Support

Please take a moment to Create a Signature — you can enter your pertinent drug and taper history in the box at the bottom. This will allow members to see where you are in the process, so that they can better support you.

Looking forward to seeing you on the forum!

The Ashton Manual provides information that can be useful during any stage of withdrawal and recovery, and includes a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.

For those who are currently tapering, a starting guideline is that the dosage not be reduced faster than by 5-10% every 10-14 days, although some taper even more slowly than that. One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper somewhat faster.

Welcome Lookinup and yes, the Ashton protocol works for a lot of ppl. .5 mgs is not terribly high but K is a very potent benzo and you have taken it for a very long time. BB is a wonderful support forum. It has many knowledgeable, helpful members.

Hello,

Hope all is going well for you.  Just figured out this site. Don’t know where to start if I am in fact having tolerance withdrawal.  Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi Lookinup; welcome to BB. I'm sure, especially if you haven't upped your dosage in quite some time, that you are in fact in tolerance withdrawal. The easiest thing to do may just be plan a sensible taper and start from the dosage you're currently at. You can go slower than Ashton recommends if it helps keep your symptoms more manageable. I wish you a smooth taper!
