Mixed withdrawal and benzo symptoms

Hello BB ,

I am a 27 yr old from the Netherlands and I have been on benzo's one year ago and also on low dose quetiapine. I have quit both now, I slowly tapered off of them last year.

I was put on oxazepam for a few weeks in may 2018 until mid/end June. I was also put on quetiapine around this time because the doctors deemed it safer than oxazepam.

The reason I was put on meds was because of severe symptoms of a so-called pyridoxine (inactive vitamin B6) intoxication while going through withdrawal. I didn't know about this until recently, when I found some studies of the potential harm pyridoxine has on enzymes involved in the formation of neurotransmitters.

Half a year before that (late 2017), I took (probably too much) 5-HTP, L-tyrosine and L-theanine to try to enhance my cognitive abilities in combination for almost a week and that's when my first symptoms actually started. Quit using them immediately but kept having symptoms for more than half a year until I was unknowingly getting intoxicated with the pyridoxine..

Half a year before thát I would try kratom to enhance cognitive ability and reduce social anxiety, but I didn't know it was an opioid. 6 days in, I got a wave of derealisation/depersonalisation while having existential fears about going crazy, etc. This made me throw away the drugs immediately. At the time I used it, I didn't know it was a drug. Just thought it was some harmful kind of herb.

I have been putting my body and mind in overdrive for a couple of years through bad sleeping patterns, bad diet, overtraining, not getting to the root of some psychological issues like social anxiety and becoming an active drinker (summer 2017) after 2 and a half years of not consuming alcohol.

I am not and was never addicted to alcohol, but I went sober as a student because I wanted to boost my muscle growth. When I started using alcohol again, it was a little.. too much..

I quit drinking alcohol immediately after getting symptoms late 2017.

Now I am clean of everything and I am trying to build good habits step by step. For more than a year now I have been fighting a lot of symptoms that come very close to, or even are the same as, benzo withdrawal symptoms.

I hope to find some buddies on here and to find encouragement and hope towards healing as I am still not able to function properly in society.

I hope to be one of the success stories one day that can inspire others!

Welcome to bb Tywin, love your name and the show :)

The Moderator provided you with 2 really good links, the Ashton Manual and the Post Recovery Support, they will explain many of the sxs you are feeling and a group of people you can talk with that are either experiencing what you are or have experienced it.

Please do fill out the drug signature, the link was also supplied.  It will give everyone a good picture of your history and enable them to give you the best advice.  Thanks, wish you lots of luck, Mary 🍀🍀🍀
