“Rapid detox protocol” hell

I am 18 mos clear of benzos after 20 years.  I wasn’t offered tapering and I knew nothing but I had to somehow stop. I was treated with what I now have found described as “ rapid detox protocol” This was five days  of (I believe) phenobarbital and/ or other sedatives to safely get through. Then I was discharged on Gabapentin.

The weeks and months following my discharge were  so horrific, so nightmarish I can not find adjectives to describe.

Has ANYONE ELSE had a “rapid detox”??  I am so surprised I survived and I can’t find anyone else.

I am glad you found us!  Sorry for what you have been through, we have/had many like you who have suffered rapid withdrawal.  Medical detox is usually a rough road.  Congratulations on 18 months benzo free!  How are you feeling now?  Are you still struggling with any symptoms?  You will find some very valuable support and information on the forum.

Welcome ..Sadly, there are a lot of us who did a rapid detox for many reasons.  I also went to a medically supervised detox center in hopes they knew what they were doing.  It was about 6 days.  Like you experienced, the horrific w/d symptoms ensued for 2.5 months.  Couldn't function on any level.  Glad you found BB.  This site is full of great information and support.
