"Do Not Use" list of benzos

"Do Not Use List" of benzos at "Worst Pills"(Public Citizen), Jan 2019

(with their caution that "Some drugs can cause severe

adverse effects when they are stopped suddenly.")

Paywall site https://www.worstpills.org/member/drugprofile.cfm?m_id=83

(I was surprised the list included Valium, but not my hated Klonopin.)

"do not use":

alprazolam (NIRAVAM; XANAX XR; XANAX) (except panic disorder)

chlordiazepoxide (H-TRAN; LIBRITABS; LIBRIUM; MITRAN; POXI)

clorazepate (GEN-XENE; TRANXENE)

diazepam (VALIUM; DIASTAT ACUDIAL; DIASTAT(Valeant);DIAZEPAM INTENSOL)

estazolam (PROSOM)

flurazepam (DALMANE)

halazepam (PAXIPAM)

lorazepam (ATIVAN; LORAZEPAM INTENSOL)

oxazepam (SERAX)

prazepam (CENTRAX)

quazepam (DORAL)

temazepam (RESTORIL)

triazolam (HALCION)

[added:]The reasons for their "Do Not Use" are :

Published references that state not to use the drug in certain [noted] populations.

Public Citizen’s opinion that the drug is not as safe as an alternative drug or treatment.

Public Citizen’s opinion that the drug lacks evidence of effectiveness.

Public Citizen’s opinion that a combination drug does not meet criteria justifying use.

A drug company has passed off as “new” a drug that is nearly chemically

identical to an existing drug and received a new patent.

Some insurance companies may reimburse for one drug and not the other.

Also, my warning:

I am 5 years into benzo/AD ruin, but I got even worse 6 months ago after

a procedure where sedation was opiod Fentanyl + benzo Midazolam(Versed).

Certainly don’t abuse.

The warnings of habituation is being moved from 4 weeks to days only ( medical grapevine only)

Grateful for the info, and thanks Dick - "a few days" now that is disturbing.

Sorry I meant to say that those already addicted would be encouraged to stop not forced in the majority of cases. Since Moncrieff and colleagues spilt the beans the medics are learning.

Will try to find references.

Interestingly I found a paper that the antisickness meds and antihistamines  are as effective as benzos for anxiety

The downside is that some are antipsychotics and we all know how they mess with brain shrinkage diabetes and cholesterol etc

Best wishes

Dick

Thanks so much for sharing. I find it interesting that Serax, Tranxene, Librium and Valium are all on a do not use list, yet, Klonopin isn't on it. It's interesting because Klonopin is much more portent than those other four.
