I wanted to join benzo buddies for help and support.  I have been taking ativan for over 30 years.  I am currently taking 3-2mg tabs per day.  Would like my life back.  Seriously considering a trial taper.  My doctor gave me 6mos refills, so I have time to get through family emergency etc.  lots of stress right now.

Ativan has always been a good anti-anxiety and sleep aid drug.  I just hate worrying about it all the time.  Withdrawls are awful!!

Hi Bayareaguy  Welcome to Benzobuddies!

We are glad you found us!  Sorry you are dealing with family emergency.  When you are ready to taper!  be confident and  stay positive, you can do this!  Benzos do initially take the stress and anxiety away but can turn on us and make things much worse in the long run.  I was on Diazepam for 26 years and after a slow taper, I eventually recovered and got my life back…you will too.

Benzodiazepines should be tapered off slow and careful.  A gradual taper of 5-10% every 10-14 days is generally recommended, some taper much slower.  You can alter the schedule, depending on how you feel.  Please feel free to check out the forum and post to any of the dedicated boards. Our members are very caring and will support and encourage you.

I am going to leave a link to the Ashton Manual, a great source of information about these types of medications  and how to withdraw.  The manual explains how benzodiazepines affect the body and also lists common symptoms.
