Help with withdrawl

Recommended Posts

Had a head injury in 2009 which left me with lasting balance and vertigo issues so the doctor prescribed clonazepam .5mg 3 to 4 times a day. Which not knowing any better I took. Over the years I cut it down to 2 .5 mg a day and tried to taper completely off but something always comes up in life where I can't be going through withdrawl and get through it. I always took the Teva USA brand which has now been discontinued and started a new problem. I could not take other brands like Accord and Actavis without becoming really sick. I asked my DR. to switch me to Ativan instead which he did. I'm not dealing with the transition well and want to taper off of the Ativan but I am still adjusting to it so I'm not sure what to do. Husband doesn't understand and thinks I should just stop no biggie.

Hi free12  and Welcome to Benzobuddies

I am sorry about your head injury and balance issues.  We can help you with support and taper/withdrawal information.  Its hard for our loved ones to understand withdrawal, my husband didn’t get it, and thought I could just stop!  Benzos need to be tapered slowly!  In general it’s advised to cut your daily dose by between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days.  This is depending on how you feel.  If symptoms get too much then you might decide to cut less, the goal is to remain as functional as possible whilst moving forwards.

Check out the Ashton Manual, It’s great for understanding the effect benzodiazepines have on our body.  It also provides tapering and withdrawal information.  You will find some valuable support and info on the forum.  Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

Welcome free12, did the dr by any chance have you slowly cross over to the Ativan or did you do it all at once?  Filling out your drug signature would really help us get a good overview of your history.  You are in the right place.  There are lots of really experienced people on bb just waiting to help. It's on the Home Page, click on your profile and look down, you will see signature.  Good luck , M ☮️💜
