Lightheaded and spacey head feeling

[Fp...]

Recommended Posts

Im just over 7 months off a 1.5 year taper off of 2mg ativan. All of my side effects except a lightheaded spacey feeling have left me. It is worse in the morning and tends to fade as the day goes on. Has anyone else experienced this? Can I expect it to fade over time?

Thank you,

Fp

I have the same thing going on.  It really started to hit me around month two or three.  It seems to be around most of the day but there are some days when I feel better during the day than others.  Seems like it flares up the most when I'm in a grocery store.  I'm just hoping this fades at some point.  I was six months off on 4/25, and I know I'm still pretty early on, but I hope this passes at some point in the future.

Lights in grocery stores and big box stores use to really mess with my eyes and add to the dizzy / lightheaded feeling. Ive definitely improved over the last 7 months but the lightheadedness is really holding on. I really like to hear from others who have experienced this and how long did it stick around. Keep me postednon how your feeling. U hope you gain some relief, if not recovery, very soon!

I'm six months post-taper and have that symptom too.  It fades some days, but rarely leaves altogether.  Sometimes a little caffeine helps, but I too would like to know if/when it becomes unnoticeable most of the time?

Yep, still a bit sensitive to lights, especially seeing bright lights while it’s dark all around. I was on a run last night & was pushing myself a bit, when I got to an intersection the bright traffic light made my awareness rise quite a bit & feel a little light headed. After I passed it I could still see the lights outline in my vision. I would close my eyes for a bit then open them & every time I did it would fade just a bit. But this sensitivity to lights only tends to bother me when I’m really pushing myself. It has gotten significantly better since acute & just seems to keep getting better, slowly but surely. I’m sure that this will eventually fade like everything else.

Thanks for the info and I hope mine fades as well even thought it has been pretty constant.  I noticed in your signature that you jumped last September...is that correct???

Yep, I CT’d from 4 mg of xanax Sept 1st, 2018 & took a rescue dose in Oct & one in Nov at the ER due to severe panic attacks. But in the last several month’s I’ve seen a 180 degree turn. Im feeling the best I have since summer 2014 & it just continues to get better. Not completely healed, but I’m well on my way.

That's awesome!!!  I hope I can join you one day on  the complete road to recovery!!  I'm still getting these small windows but then the waves come on and stay for quite some time.

You’ll get there. This process is just slower than we would all like it to b. You’ve got the right attitude towards it too. Hold on to that. I really think that that has a lot to do with the recovery process. Knowing, understanding, & excepting that this is temporary & things WILL get better goes a long way, at least for me it does. I refuse to let the side effects of this medication convince me that I’m forever damaged. If I could give u any suggestions or advice it would b to first identify ur personal triggers/stressors. This process is different for ea & every person. What may throw someone into a wave, could b beneficial for another. So take everything u read about this with a grain of salt. And second, figure out what works for u & stick to it. Find healthy activities both mental & physical that challenge u. It’s ok to step outside of ur comfort zone but at the same time, trust ur gut. Ur body will definitely tell u when it is overwhelmed. You’ve got this. Continue to remind urself that this will pass. Take care, all the best in healing.

And one more thing, yes, there r some individuals that r dealing with acute like sx several month’s to year’s out. But by no means does that mean u will too. When I first started reading about stories like that I thought to myself, “I’m screwed”. But this was just my benzo brain trying to scare me. This process is WAY too individualized to predict how you’ll feel even a month from now. So hang in there & continue to do what works for u.
