I jumped a few days ago, after microtapering for the past year. Headache today blew me away. Oxycodone, triptan, even some caffeine because it was THAT bad.  Toradol too! Nothing touched the pain. Vomiting a lot, so took zofran. Zero anxiety, I sleep like a baby. Physical pain brings me to tears.

What what yours like?

In a word - horrific. I had every sx ever known and HR and BP so high I had a stroke. Taper was horrific and after I jumped was in acute for almost 5 months.  No previous health issues. Really hope you fare better  as I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I went through, still have severe waves at 16 months off. Evil poisonous drug. Congratulations on being free of it.

Valium is definitely the worst unknown drug on earth.

Currrently reaching month 26 and still get very intens waves.

But slowly but steady the waves become shorter. Not months, not weeks but couple of hours to hour straight.

St. Teresa,

What you described was my acute: all physical.  With trash compactor muscles, painful inner vibrations and burning, facial dystonia and trigeminal neuralgia on top of the immense head pressure.

It does improve.

We all need time and plenty of reassurance.

I dont think any words could truly describe how bad it actually was! It was like I was thrown into an unknown universe, everything seemed alien, i couldn't look people in the eyes, could barely string sentences together (if I could even find the courage to speak over random fear of saying something stupid). I remember there were many times where I'd speak and it would seem as if the words were coming from someone else .. I felt barely alive and at times I'd drift so far from realty that it's like I was asleep and having a really bad dream, then a part of my brain would remind me this was no dream and I was actually still living and this caused even more fear and anxiety .. I can't imagine there are many things in life worse than this experience but now at 22.5 months out I am so much better than I was and I'm happy I forced myself through it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I was on 7.5 mg of Valium for about 9 weeks and then did a 4.5 month taper that was reasonably consistent with the approach in the Ashton Manual. My taper ended 90 days ago.  My symptoms since getting off are not much different from what they were like during the taper.  My major symptoms are burning nerve endings (neuropathy) generally in my feet, hands, across my shoulder blades, and sometimes across my chest.  The neuropathy is worst in the morning and often dissipates by bed time.  I also have terrible insomnia, which is worse since I got off entirely. I have slept anywhere from 1.5 hours a night to 6 hours at the very best and average about 3.5 hours a night. As a result, I am constantly tired, my brain feels foggy, and my concentration and memory stink. I also struggle with feeling both anxious and hopeless, but again these symptoms are similar to what I felt during my taper.  Occasionally, I will have a pretty good few hours or even a day.

Unfortunately, I have not seem much improvement in my symptoms in the three months since my taper ended.  However, I also am lucky that I am not so debilitated that I cannot exercise.  I still drive, go outside without agoraphobia, work, but do not function at nearly the level I used too.

I did end up with mental symptoms after all. Like floodgates opening. Physical pain is still overwhelming. Truly. Inner tremors. Mentally, better than a week ago, so I guess that’s progress!

I had over 100 sxs in my acute phase and it lasted around 90 days. I had all sxs in my sign and much much more. I am 20 months off and still in hell. Now suffer from Seroquel W/d that worsen my benzo w/d.

What I have right now is marked with *
