Welcome to BenzoBuddies!  We are glad you decided to join us.  You'll find a lot of support and information on this forum, which is the only one of its kind online.  You are on a high dose of xanax, but many have gotten off xanax before, I was on 5mgs, sometimes 6 per day.  It wasn't easy, but I'm thankful now to be 7 years off.

 

For those starting a taper, we generally recommend starting out at a rate of 5 to 10% every 10-14 days, then adjusting the taper to suit your own needs.  Note: very short term users may be able to taper faster.

 

Withdrawal symptoms, which vary widely but commonly include anxiety and insomnia, often occur during a taper, but these are temporary and will get better in time.  In general, first tapers are easier, but cold turkeys or multiple withdrawals may be more severe and longer lasting.  Here are a few links to get you started:

 

The Ashton Manual, a concise reference for tapering and symptom issues.  Chapter III contains excellent descriptions of common symptoms such as muscle issues, anxiety, and hyper-awareness

You are in the right place.  Thinking back, I want to share some of my thoughts about what I would have done different when I first found this amazing site.

 

I wish I had read the Ashton Manual twice through thoroughly before I started my taper plan.  I wish I had opened all of the attachments and read the supplement to that

report. There is so much common sense information in Heather Ashton's work with hundreds of patients.  Even though these studies took place decades ago, our bodies are still physiologically and neurologically the same in 2019.  I wish I had known about the daily liquid micro taper (DLMT) so that I could have had a more even continual taper. BB's goes beyond her work in that this site offers several other taper options as well.

 

Meagan has shared some great sites for you to explore and  understand more about what is happening with you and the drug on which you are dependent,

I am sure you will find great support here.  I surely have.
