Having Faith

So far I have not found a sympathetic Doctor to work with me to do a micro taper in my area to help me with a micro taper but have decided to continue with my taper plan but have decided to continue.  At first without a goal to get off of taking 1mg three times a day of K for almost 22 years started sometime late last year I reduced my dose to 2mg.  All the while experiencing moderate to severe w/d symptoms.  Many neurologic symptoms, severe anxiety, suicidal ideation and the list goes on.  Went to a neurologist and was being tested for various neurologic conditions including MS and then moved and didn't follow thru after my move.  Early March I cut from 2mg to 1.5 and all hell broke lose.  This is when I started researching K withdrawal and knew all my health and severe w/d started to make sense.

I spoke with my NP and her idea of a taper is 2 months.  I brought in my research including the Ashton manual, info on Benzo Withdrawal Syndrome, and other material and she refused to even take the information.  It did not go well.  I had a cancerous tumor removed and at the base not all the cancer cells were removed and will be scheduled for another surgery in late June.  She is being kind and waiting to start my taper after I recover from my next surgery.  Probably in August.  I have tapered to 1.35mg or so.  Don't have a scale so not quite sure what the .mg is at this point.  I will be doing a dry cut and ordered a mg scale today on Amazon Prime arriving Thursday.  No but the present to start.  I also made 3 appointments in my area in hopes to find a doctor who is willing to work with me on a micro taper.  My plan B is to request an appointment with the psch doctor in the practice my NP works in with hopes he will be more flexible with a taper plan in August.  Meanwhile, I'm still filing my 1mg 3x a day prescription and saving the extras so I can continue my taper if all else fails and my NP decides not to write anymore prescriptions.  I also found a Doctor in a neighboring state that has worked with patients with slow taper plans.  This is plan C.

Hopefully this drastic measure is not necessary since I'll be out on an island all by myself with no support system.  I'm keeping faith and praying that all works out. Hopefully I won't have to jump to soon.

I sympathise.

Having given my DOC the Ashton manual. and Joanna Moncrieff's details I still get the "well 50 years on diazepam has worked so far etc---"

Keep strong and take a buddy if required

Dick,

Are you doing a slow taper with a doctor?  I have never heard anyone being on a benzo for so long?  You must be so brave and have to have such courage!

All my life I have taken the treatment as gospel until I realised benzos didn’t work.i studied the Ashton, John Read and others and have educated my Gp regarding withdrawal. Bb has also helped strengthen my resolve.

The odd thing is that in my own clinical practice I was more cautious with meds than I allowed my own docs to be.

As my therapist says.....your Gp is unable to change and your psych reaches for the prescribing pad within minutes of seeing her. Sadly my family fear my withdrawal approach though my daughter jumped off duloxetine 5 years after her mums death and does support me.

They —the docs—have no idea of the brutal anguish of withdrawal and are afraid of it,

That is where BB comes in to help!

I am doing a rapid taper of benzo, just stopping to get off Quetiapine by jumping last week.

After beating the Seroquel jump I resume the Diaz taper. Then it’s the mirtazipine.

Reasons.

Anger at the exhaustion of taking meds

Hope for a clean mind to progress.

Fear of the accumulation  of side effects

Yes 51 years on benzos now and at least 8 antidepressants.perhaps a record. Barbiturates before the benzos @))

Only I can decide to grasp the pain of withdrawal and pray for healing.

I wish all fellow travellers a good outcome

Missbella,

-With planning and determination like that, I am "having faith" that you will carve your own path through this... It would be nice to be able to compromise a bit for any unaware Drs, but in reality our bodys dont cater to their thoughts and feelings.. We either can or we cant...

All the best as you work out and maintain your "can do" taper..!!

:)

You can do this Miss Bella. And you DO have a support system here on BB. My doc actually told me I could take Klonopin forever if I wanted to. When I told him I wanted to taper he deterred me and when I insisted he pointed me to this site and said I should learn about DLMT. He didn’t want to be bothered with it and that’s fine. I’ve found everything I’ve wanted to know through research but mostly on this site. I’m lucky I have a doc you will prescribe my meds as long as it takes because it’s taken so much longer than I expected.

It sounds like you’re a planner and anticipating any outcome so that’s great! With faith and also planning you’ll definitely beat this. You’ll find determination you didn’t know you had. I pray you have as easy time as possible. Take all the stories here with a grain of salt and stay steadfast on your goal. Best wishes to you.
