Clonazepam withdrawal after 4months of Prescription

Recommended Posts

I was prescribed clonazepam for anxiety disorder since December of last year. I decided to quit taking the drug because of the way it made me feel and because I was not seeing any reduction in the symptoms only the induction of sleep. I quit 'cold turkey in March from a 1mg dose and I went through hell. Upon several explorations on the internet I got to know that it was withdrawal symptoms of the drug so I told my psychologist and he did a taper for to weeks till I reached 0.25mg. He put me on Sertraline during the taper.

Am a little over two weeks off the clonazepam. It hasn't been easy but throughout I have been reading the success stories of benzobuddies and it helps me maintain a positive mindset that I will be free soon. I also pray a lot for divine healing and strength. Currently my main concern is the heart palpitations which really scare me on certain days  Are they normal because I thought I should go and see a cardiologist

Hello, Gifty — welcome to BenzoBuddies, and congratulations on being benzo-free!

Heart palpitations are very common during benzo withdrawal and recovery, but you should always check with your doc, just for safety and peace of mind. I had terrible palpitations, but they eased up and then vanished – I’m sure yours will too.

The Ashton Manual provides information that can be useful during any stage of withdrawal and recovery, and includes a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.
