Does changing diazepam manufacturer cause sxs

[LE...]

Recommended Posts

I was taking one 2.5mg (1/2 5 pill) for a very long time and also as I was tapering. Started using a different manufacturer (2mg tablet) during my taper. Now I am having such intense muscle spasms and stiffness, frequency and full body pain. BTW, I am at .875mg and doing a .001g by weight every 2 to 3 days. I didn't think I should be feeling this reaction. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I started using the 2mg tablet at the 1mg mark. Wanted to add that.

I had trouble with a manufacturer change on Xanax. Felt like I'd taken a placebo. I took the round pills back and got the football shaped ones like I'd been taking.

LENNY,

Glad you posted, LENNY.  Was just pondering this today and I’d like to know as well.  I was taking brand Valium 5mg tablets, but when I got below 15mg in taper needed 2 mg tablets.  Roche was not supplying the 2’s at the time and I had to switch to a generic.  Have been wondering if this could be a factor as to why I’ve had to slow down my taper and I’ve hit such a bad wall.  The symptoms that have intensified for me are mostly mental, but have also had increase in physical.

Yeah, my s/x increased when I switched generics. I asked the pharmacist to always fill my doc's prescription with Mylan -- not a great generic, but it was the one the one I had been getting all along. I forget what the substitute was that gave me trouble. S/x got much better.

Just fyi drug manufacturers are permitted to vary the % of the active ingredient in their drugs by as much as 20%. This can feel like a whopping big cut. Or a whopping increase. The variation can go either way.

And further fyi last week I got a new generic beta blocker that gave me fits. It was way too strong-- I got all the nasty typical beta blocker s/x. I asked my pharmacist to switch me back. No problem. You'd think I'd have learned about generics from my benzo taper.  :(

Yes. I didn't realize it, but I had been taking Teva diazepam for years. Then one day I pick up my prescription. When I got home I noticed the pills were a different color, but I didn't think anything of it. A few days later I started having WD symptoms and couldn't figure out why I was feeling so weird. Eventually I realized they had given me Mylan and that was causing me problems.

Now I only take Teva because that is what my body is accustomed to.

I just looked at my refills and I was using Mylan for the past few weeks and it is giving me fits so I am starting to use the Teva tomorrow. Of course the pill weights are different so had to recalculate my taper weights. I hope the Teva agrees with me seeing as I have a 90 day supply and should take me to the end. Was wondering why I'm hurting so bad. Thank you all for your comments.

The generic brand can make a huge difference in your symptoms. I took lorazepam for a year before starting a 6 month taper and found during that time there was only one generic brand that didn't make me sick. You just have to experiment with different brands to see which one works for you.

I you both taper and change manufacturers, you won't know what is causing your symptoms. It can be the switch in manufacturer or the taper itself. This is how science works. If you switch brands when you're stable (not having tapered prior) and have symptoms, then it's the switch. I tend to disagree with the people who blame it on the switch.
