Being out

Year off and I still can’t be out in public. Tried to go to a restaurant with my family tonight and i couldn’t do it. Severe anxiety walking into the restaurant, complete sensory overload still. So I sat in the car while they ate. It’s not something I can push through. I feel completely senskry overload. Anyone else

Please don't think this is condescending at all but no one goes from being house bound to eating in a restaurant.  It was 4 months of exposure therapy before I could... Now there are no issues at all.  You can do it! But not by pushing through - must be a slow recursive process.

I’ve been this way for a year. I go everyday. I shouldn’t say housebound per say, it’s just the last year I’ve been “housebound” in the sense when I leave I get the sensory overload. I still haven’t been to a grocery store or Walmart longer than 2 mins, awful awful feeling. This is why I disagree with agorophobia dp drs give me, I’m not necessarily scared to go as I have 3 kids I can’t stay home. It’s just when I’m out it’s this intense anxiety that takes over my brain.

So sorry to hear that.  I was unable to leave the house for 6 months.  I am now able to sit outside and go for a short walk near the house.  i can not ride in a car yet.  I found that this is something that I could not force myself to get used to.  Time is slowly making it easier for me to go outside.
