AFTER THE TAPER COMES THE INSOMNIA

[fr...]

Recommended Posts

I have tapered off Xanax (1/5 mg a day for twenty years) and now, after six weeks, my insomnia is back with a vengeance and also my RLS. The sleeping pill I take (Sonata, 10 mg) seems less effective than ever.  Is this normal? What am I doing wrong?  Restless Me

Hello freeasabird  Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

We are glad you joined our community. You will get plenty of advice and support here to help you on your journey.  You made a good decision to withdraw from benzodiazepines.  I am sorry that the pre-existing Insomnia has returned, it’s a dreadful symptom it’s also a very common symptom in benzo withdrawal.  I had both insomnia and the restless legs in withdrawal,  I hope it settles down for you.

You may want to check out the insomnia board, I will post the link below. You might get some tips to help with your sleep issues.  I also believe that communicating with others who are in the same situation, will help you get through this. Congratulations on being benzo free.!

Sonata is a “z-drug” and is similar to benzos in certain ways and would need tapering in the same fashion as benzos.  You might like to post to this support thread.

Check out the Ashton Manual  It is an excellent resource about these types of medication and their effect on the body. It provides plenty of withdrawal information and also includes a list of common symptoms

Welcome,

I’m so sorry about the insomnia.  Insomnia is a common withdrawal symptom.

You will get through this.  Healing is happening.
