Withdrawal questions Xanax

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

This is my first post and I have been Xanax free for 3 weeks. I was taking .5 mg and I’d typically break it in half and take it twice a day.  I was taking it for over 5 years and a few weeks ago I realized I was dependent.

I quit cold turkey not knowing anything on withdrawal effects of benzo.

The first week was very bad. Couldn’t leave the house. Went to the ER which was no help.

Does anyone experience weird head feelings and get dizzy still. It causes worse anxiety and panic because I’m not sure what’s going on. I get nauseous once in a while and was wonder why the symptoms come and go. Any insight will help

Thanks everyone!

Strongly suggest you taper to 0.25 4 doses then drop a quarter maybe 10 days or more. Whatever you feel comfortable with.  I have been off 11 months now and still experience symptoms of nausea, sleeplessness, brain fog, hot/cold feelings, lack of energy.

Chris,

All those symptoms are normal withdrawal symptoms.  I took more Xanax longer and had 5 brutal weeks of withdrawals after CT. I’m beginning month 5 and withdrawals are still hard to bare.

CT is difficult.  I didn’t know better.  The head pressure/stuff still going on.

Hope healing comes quickly for you.

Even though I’m more than 3 weeks off Xanax completely, I should taper?

Not saying I’m going to but if anyone had advice on that let me know.

I personally think that if it’s bearable to keep going? Then keep going. I CT’d from 4 mg Sept 1, 2018 after around 3 year’s of heavy use & abuse & went through a horribly brutal acute period. But if ur already 3 weeks in & aren’t feeling the need to run to the ER everyday & r somewhat functional, that should b a pretty good indication that if ur careful & figure out ur triggers r, u cud very well b on ur way to healing. I’m in month 7, almost month 8 & have seen an incredible turnaround since my acute. Especially since I started doing cardio about 2 month’s ago. Last night I had a mini wave which has been the first wave I’ve had in weeks. I would take xanax daily for month’s & then quit for a couple weeks thinking it was helping but in actuality, I feel like it just made things worse. Whenever I reintroduced it back into my system, yes, it did get rid of a lot of the symptoms I had been experiencing, but then when I would stop again I would find myself with new symptoms or symptoms that had morphed & gotten more intense. As time went on, I then started to become so tolerant that when I would take it, it would actually make me feel worse than I felt without it. I feel like the less of this drug u consume, honestly the better off u r. Just sharing my experience, ultimately, ur the one who knows u best. But IMO, if you’ve already made it 3 weeks, then that’s 3 weeks of healing ur brain has already started. Wish u all the best in whichever decision u make, take care.

Keep going if at all possible. It's gonna be rough for a few months but you will heal. I quit c/t Zanax and Restoril 13 months ago, Alcohol 14. I would say I'm about 85-90% healed. Avoid processed foods, alcohol and sugar, and stay well hydrated. You will find lots of support on BB.

Yes, lots of weird head feelings and dizziness. It is a normal part of withdrawal. I CT'd off Xanax as well and dizziness was 24/7 for a while. Weird head feelings were from a bunch of different things-muscle spasms, dizziness, DP/DR, eye issues, etc. I'm sorry you CT'd without knowing. It happened to me too. You can reinstate and slowly taper, but it's a very personal decision and one I'd look into carefully before deciding.

I’m going to keep it going come turkey since things are better than others some days.  All day was great today then towards the end of the day the symptoms came back.

Thanks for all the support!!
