Hi, I am new here

I have had my account for awhile, but have never really posted. Can you tell me how to post to this forum? I have been on valium for over 20 years, have become tolerant, and I am trying to slowly come off and came here looking for support. I am currently down to 10 mgs of valium daily but I am finding it very difficult to drop any lower. I don't see a way to post new threads and reply to existing threads, so can you please tell me how.

Hello, AntiBenzo7 :) - welcome to BenzoBuddies!

Congratulations on cutting down so far already – you’ve made really great progress.

It’s not unusual to be going along smoothly only to hit a rough patch on the way down. Sometimes all it takes is a small tweak in your tapering plan to get everything back on track.

I'm so glad you decided to join the forum - you'll find plenty of information and support here. Our members have gone through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, so you'll be able to connect with others who understand what you're going through.

Here are a couple of links that may be a good starting place for you:

  General Taper Plans

  Withdrawal Support

Please take a moment to Create a Signature. This will allow members to see where you are in the process, so that they can better support you.

Looking forward to seeing you on the forum!

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative resource on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery. It provides information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.

For those who are currently tapering, a starting guideline is that the dosage not be reduced faster than by 5-10% every 10-14 days, although some taper even more slowly than that. One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper somewhat faster.

PS - I am almost 50 years old. I was put on benzos by a psychiatrist for anxiety and panic attacks. I never knew how addictive these drugs were or how difficult it would be to get off them after long-term use. I am determined to rid my body of them eventually and restore my health. My main SX now is extreme feeling of pressure in my stomach and chest that is there 24/7/365. I am not sure how much is anxiety or from the benzos just not working anymore after all these years. If anyone here has successfully gotten off valium and now feel better, I would love to hear from you. I decided I need some support so I came out of lurk mode. These drugs are brutal trying to detox, lemme tell you. I was on klonopin prior to switching over to valium.

Thank you for the warm reception LeslieAsh. I will see if I can post the signature now using the link you provided.  :)

We’re glad you’re here!

You’ll meet a number of members here who are your age, and many (yes, many!) of us are quite a bit older. At first I thought that was a huge strike against me, but age doesn’t really seem to make much of a difference – that’s just based on my own experience, and on talking a lot with others who are in their sixties (and up).

Look forward to getting to know you!
