Ashton method morning taper question

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know why Heather Ashton has you taper your morning dose all the way down to 0 before starting on the evening taper? Is it so you can get good sleep to heal? Or maybe I was thinking she wants you to adjust to daytime without benzos before tackling the final hurdle? I'm currently taking 2mg in the morning and 2mg at night, and I'm just about to cut and can't decide if I should cut the morning dose or the evening dose. I do not have a problem with insomnia so that is not a factor, and I do get interdose withdrawals even on Valium- I guess I metabolize it fast. Ashton would have me taper the morning to 0 but I'm thinking Morning to 1mg, evening 2mg, then next cut would be morning 1mg and evening 1mg, and so on. What do you think?

It's probably due to diazepam's long-acting nature,

since she doesn't do that in her chlordiazepoxide schedule.

If you get interdose withdrawals, going 1-2,1-1,... sounds like a good idea.

Regards.
