Permanent new themes of OCD after withdrawal?

Recommended Posts

Hard question that is killing me: Is it possible that the OCD theme that you have acquired in the retreat becomes a theme that will stay even if the withdrawal symptoms are over?

OBS * I already had OCD before withdrawal symptoms

Has anyone had a similar case? Has the theme prevailed even after the withdrawal?

With brain chemistry changing in withdrawal, is it possible to have a miracle of OCD end even after withdrawal?

many questions!

That would sure be nice (to have an 'issue' disappear).  I'm sure it happens, but I suspect it's because of deliberate (not accidental) changes in the way that the individual perceives life events.

That's a good question!!

I started benzos and ADs for anorexia and remained obsessed with food/eating for the next 13 years on the "meds". The obsessions left when I jumped. So perhaps our brains conjure that kind of thing to help us survive...?

As for the theme, I guess it is also very personal...

I wouldn't read too much into anything which happens in psych drug withdrawal...

Your life circumstances will change as your health improves - your brain may not need the OCD to cope, although we all know that "off meds", we need to address our issues differently.

It seems that I was ready to move on...?

Good luck!

Oh don't talk about OCD!! I acquired quite an interest in The Jewelry Chanel.  My husband could not believe that I have watched that EVERY Night before I go to sleep---what's that about. this drug has it own line of work for each of us. I mean the Jewelry Chanel. I felt comfort watching the hosts, like they were keeping me company and were friends. It is starting to diminish and I Am Back to Science, Discover, Nat Geo, and History, my normal viewing. See why this was a shock to my husband and I sure did not think a drug could cause this Obsession.

*Actually I have bought some very nice jewelry but My husband will never know---he would have me committed. Seriously!!

Hang in there,

May Trix

So, I'm asking this because it seems to get new obsessions with the withdrawal the lyrica. I'm afraid this does not get better

I think many Buddies have trouble distinguishing pre-existing "mental problems" and withdrawal-related. Take those who suffered anxiety or depression for instance. Benzo-withdrawal can create obsessions and OCD too. But anything withdrawal-related will fade away or even lift at once so there is no need to address those as stand-alone issues.

This is a time of great change for your Brain, let yourself heal, know that it gets better. And that you will deal with anything when the time comes, if needed.

Hang in there!
