Vitamins While Tapering

Recommended Posts

I've been doing as much research as I can during my taper.  I've read that magnesium, B12, Vitamin D and others help relieve depression and anxiety symptoms.  I take a multivitamin daily but would it be beneficial to take some of these supplements?  My doctor said he didn't see any issue with it but has anyone else tried this?

I'm personally dropping every supplement plus caffeine and sugar; they might help but then again maybe not. Why risk it?

Make sure you eat healthy and enough; pray and take it one day at a time, keep your mind only in the present.

I would second your doctor.  If you don't have any negative reaction to vitamins, by own means take them.  They helped me a lot.  I didn't take them for a week once just to see, and I could feel the difference.  I take vitamin D, E, A, C, Co-Q10, fish oil, and zinc daily.  Just make sure you get clean, top brand, without additives or chemicals.  You will encounter a lot of people who will advise you against taking vitamins.  It is your personal choice, but if you don't have a bad reaction, quality/clean nutrition can only help you.

I agree about taking supplements as long as they don't bother you.  I see so many people say that supplements rev them up a bit, only to find out months later that they are vitamin deficient and many of their 'withdrawal" symptoms were actually due to vitamin deficiencies.

That being said, some people have a hard time with magnesium, but for others it can be extremely helpful for anxiety and sleep.  I take magnesium glycinate (an easier to digest formula that usually doesn't affect digestion or cause upset stomach).  I seem to tolerate it very well on it.

Magnesium helps me with muscle and joint pain

In my opinion from trial and error, your more likely to feel better by playing with your diet than supplements. Get your vitamins from nutrition as best you can. A multi vitamin is plenty.

Personally, I am taking the exact same supplements I took before beginning voluntarily w/d in July 2017. I never hit what BB calls a tolerance level of K.

I don't want to make ANY kind of changes to meds or supplements while w/d. I checked with primary care doctor and cardiologist. Both agree.

I am non smoker, drinker, no street drugs, no abuses . . . lacto vegetarian exercise nut

my supplements:

senior multi vitamin

Vitamin C (don't get annual flu shot)

Calcium/Vitamin D (per PCP)

TheraCran (per Uriologist)

B-12 (vegetarian, per PCP)

flaxseed oil (no fish oil, vegetarian)

NO OTC pain reliefs, etc, etc.

NOTHING to be added until this journey is over. I don't want to take a chance of changing anything that goes into my body right now.

Just my personal and primary care doctor wishes.
