Tomorrow I will finish week 12 without z-drug zopiclon, I am going mostly through tough days, some bad, some quite OK. I am also having bowel problems. I have been to the doctor for it, but he prescribes stuff which seems to make it worse, this in combination with my mental problems makes me crazy. The current powder, 1 sachet Movicolon gives me diarrea, so today I took a half sachet, but now nothing came out, and I still have a bad feeling in my belly. Are there more people with these problems? Do you have a solution?

Lightspacer, can you describe your bowel and intestine problems?

Sorry you are suffering from this.  :(

I use a heating pad  on my stomach when I'm lying down reading.

Oregenkatz;

I have a form of constipation, I want/have  to go, but nothing comes out. It can take a couple of days to go. This can be so annoying that I use microlax in the end. Something that can make the bowel lazy. Walking is supposed to be good, so I do that once in a while. I can also have a bad feeling in my intestines. Luckily today it is somewhat better.

Drad dog;

I also have a heating pad, I will use it too...

lightspacer, I had a lot of trouble on my taper with, um, regularity. I ate fiber but that did not seem to work. So I tried a form of magnesium -- Natural Calm (you can get it from Amazon). It worked VERY well. It is not a laxative, and you take it every day. Magnesium is something that our bodies need, but we get way too little of in our diets. It is responsible for smooth muscle functioning. Anyhow, once I started taking this (it's magnesium citrate -- non of the other forms worked for me) everything began to work normally. I am extremely regular. So you might try it. Use half the recommended dosage to start with.

Hope you get some relief. It's a miserable condition, I know.

Hi oregonkatz,

I am really glad about what you wrote me. By chance I already have magnesium citrate in my house. I had bought it to use it for better sleep. I didn't know it is good for the bowel muscles. I really hope it works for me too. Lazy intestines is such annoying problem. I have started with a quarter dosage, I will slowly increase it.

Really thx!

My experience is that Gut Problems and "mental" stuff go hand in hand on this journey. My feeling (it's more than just a feeling) is that Gut Signalling is causal for a very large proportion of our other symptoms and that gut healing will alleviate the majority of it over time. I also think that this is true for most - but the connection is not made by many, because of obfuscation created by the overall 'noise' from a wide-ranging, attention-grabbing symptom list.

I had what you have, but I didn't take anything for it, preferring my innards to sort themselves out over time and, to be honest, fear of making things worse. So far, at this point, so good.

All the very best.

It's a gut feeling?

Yes, it is definitely in that area.

But the gut-brain connection is more than 'a connection'. There is a two-way input output relationship between gut and brain. Both signal in both directions. Mostly, it has been assumed up to recently that the brain takes the lead and all the important signalling is 'top-down'. But this is not the case; the gut signals the brain (and some say that gut-to-brain signalling constitutes the majority of that traffic).

Here's an excerpt from an article at Harvard:

"... A troubled intestine can send signals to the brain, just as a troubled brain can send signals to the gut. Therefore, a person's stomach or intestinal distress can be the cause or the product of anxiety, stress, or depression. That's because the brain and the gastrointestinal (GI) system are intimately connected..."

And at John Hopkins:

"...If you’ve ever “gone with your gut” to make a decision or felt “butterflies in your stomach” when nervous, you’re likely getting signals from an unexpected source: your second brain.  Hidden in the walls of the digestive system, this “brain in your gut” is revolutionizing medicine’s understanding of the links between digestion, mood, health and even the way you think..."

NW, this was intended as a joke, really.

A lame one, I admit.  :)

But hey, thanks for the informative links you provided! There must certainly be a gut-brain connection.

Love and healing,

Hi Oregonkatz,

Thanks so so so much! Yesterday I started with the magnesium citrate and I have just been to the toilet normally again. It is almost a miracle for me, why don't doctors know these things. I now take two times 100mg a day (I even think one time 100mg a day is enough, I have figure that out)

I don't know how much I can thank you, it has been such a problem for a long time.

And now it is solved. Wooow. Hugggs!

That's wonderful news, Lightspacer, I'm happy for you!

Maybe I will give that magnesium citrate also a try.

Stay strong,

So glad that worked for you, Jerry. Yes, magnesium citrate is pretty much a solution for that "problem". And if only doctors would tell us about it, think of the misery it would save us.

May you have much, er, relief going forward.

Day 3 with the magnesium citrate which I took in the morning, en yes I just went again to the toilet without problems. It is so great! Mentally I am not feeling good, but still am happy with the 'going to the WC' result! Separately I cannot go swimming....

Separately yesterday, with magnesium citrate, I didn't go to the toilet. Today I am still waiting for. It to come. It is really a disappointment, I didn't expect this. Also my intestines hurt, are not feeling OK.

Why.... I was so happy with it? Maybe I have to take a higher dose?

Jerry

Update; so I went finally today, but I am nit sure if it was de magnesium cit. I used other stuff too

Maybe you need to take a bit more. You could go as high as the recommended dose and see what happens. I wouldn't do more. I eventually found a dose that works for me and I've never had to increase. But I did have to use quite a bit of trial and error. So you might experiment a little.
