Anyone try this while withdrawing from benzos?  I have depression, anxiety and intrusive thoughts.  :D

I am strongly considering an antidepressant of some sort too.  Going to keep an eye on this thread.

Unless your symptoms are severe, I wouldn't recommend adding stuff.

You should probably ask your doctor about it.

I've tried many antidepressants over the years; Luvox was not one of them.

However, I found some interesting stuff after I did some research.

Luvox has lots of interactions.

Here are some you might find useful:

1. Caffeine: Luvox decreases its metabolism.

Your 1 cup of coffee may become more like 4 cups.

2. Diazepam: Luvox decreases its metabolism.

Like caffeine, you’ll get more out of it.

3. Nicotine: Smoking increases the metabolism of Luvox by ~35%, so you’ll get less out of it.

That’s ironic for a med that is one of the best for OCD,

since some studies (links 1 & 2) have found nicotine to be effective for OCD.

My symptoms are very severe.  I have awful pain and pressure in my ears and face, in addition to tinnitus and severe and painful sensitivity to sound (hyperacusis).  I cannot even tolerate the sounds of a TV on low volume and spend most of my time locked away in isolation.

It is very difficult to manage my situation without medication both for psychiatric and physical reasons.  Benzos were like a miracle drug for my facial symptoms and hyperacusis, but apparently I can't stay on them.

1. I was referring to WoundedWarrior.

2. To the best of my knowledge, antidepressants won't help the symptoms you're describing.

Regards.

I'm on Luvox for OCD:anxiety. The pills seem to pale in comparison to therapy. I needed to get off benzos and on to therapy. CBT and ERP and mindfulness are doing far more than the Luvox.

The idea is that antidepressants will help me cope with them better.  I suffer from massive health anxiety.

We understand you're a Citizen Medical Expert, lmao, you've made that perfectly clear ::), but this is BS, this is not how it's done, Dude.  Where are your sources?

I agree with the general sentiment that says if you can avoid going on another med during your taper, it is probably best. If the OCD and intrusive thoughts becoming overwhelming, don't beat yourself up for going on something like Luvox. Alternatively, you might want to consider Clomipramine. It is an older tricyclic, but is considered very effective for OCD and works on depression as well. SSRIs and Tricyclics both have their share of side effects, but I'd personally take the side effects of a tricyclic over an SSRI. Plus tricyclics are generally easier to come off of. I was actually on Clompirmamine for about 6 months in my teens and it worked quite well. I often think about starting it again at some point in my taper. The first time I tapered (too quickly), OCD and intrusive thoughts were some of my worst symptoms.

It's all in the PI.

Just to make it easier for you here is the Wikipedia page.

And here are a few studies backing it up: A, B, C.

Yeah, Luvox is good for OCD. But without self-directed CBT you won’t get far. If you feel sleepy, you may always ask your pdoc about Zoloft or Prozac. More activating. I felt very sleepy on both Paxil and Luvox. I even feel lethargic on Prozac.
