Trapped in illness and suffering

Hi,

I've been on Ativan for 10 years, I was on 3mg a day but now I'm at 1.5mg a day, I've tried to get off this so many times and every time has been the worst kind of hellish experience I could ever imagine, I went very fast not really knowing about microtapering, but after looking into it I knew that's what I needed to do, so I joined BenzoBuddies, to seek out information and help from people who I know have experienced and gone through the same things I have, I've suffered at the hands of a crippling autoimmune disease for about half my life now, and the benzodiazepine just makes it worse and worse, I have no chance of healing or ever living a normal life if I can't overcome this. So that's why I'm here now, because I think I'm ready to finally begin a microtaper, but I want to make sure I go about it in the right way.

Thank you so much for this beautiful community <3

Hello, GrowingHealthy :) - welcome to BenzoBuddies!

Congrats on tapering down so far already - Ativan is my old nemesis too, and I know you’re going to be as happy as I was to get off of it.

So sorry that you’re already battling another illness - having to deal with that and withdrawal too is pretty tough, but a more comfortable taper can make it easier. You’ll be able to overcome this, I promise.

I'm so glad you decided to join the forum - you'll find plenty of information and support here. Our members have gone through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, so you'll be able to connect with others who understand what you're going through.

Here are a couple of links that may be a good starting place for you:

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative resource on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery. It provides information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.

For those who are currently tapering, a starting guideline is that the dosage not be reduced faster than by 5-10% every 10-14 days, although some taper even more slowly than that. One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper somewhat faster.

Welcome and congratulations making this decision.

I am so sorry for all you have been through. Have you ever tried the Autoimmune Paleo diet. It has helped some people I know as well as myself.

Many blessing  to you.

Remember to go slow slow slow with taper and listen to your body.

Thank you so much <3 I really appreciate it :) I have tried the Autoimmune Paleo diet before, unfortunately I didn't do well on it, my body tends not to respond very well to low carb diets in general. Bless you too <3
