I have been having anxiety attacks among other things recently which is new to me that I ended up in the ER. I have been prescribed Xanax IR .5 mg when needed. It was he first time for me taking a benzo regularly, so I started taking .5mg every night for two weeks and the past 4 weeks I have moved to 1mg every night because it was helping me sleep and me totally uneducated about benzos so a total of 6 weeks I took almost 1mg every night. I was getting withdrawals during the day but didn't know it was withdrawals which led to me take 1mg every night until I realized it was WD. I decided to stop cold turkey also uneducated about how dangerous it is. The first 3 days of WD were hell, I don't recommend anyone do a cold turkey. Now I am six days in I still feel weird but the worst is behind me I hope. I want to know when will the lightheadedness, I have a little bit oh heart palpitations and some dizziness that are still there, and some trouble concentrating. I just want to know how long more should I expect until I return to before I was on Xanax. I regret taking them and regret not knowing more about the drug before taking it, I just thought it was making me feel good and sleep good and it was prescribed so why not.

Hello nonono

Welcome to the forum.  I'm glad you found us.  I'm glad you did some research and learned the potential dangers of taking these drugs for a prolonged period of time.  While a c/t withdrawal is not normally recommended, your usage was short enough that I think you will probably get thru this withdrawal pretty quickly and fairly easily.

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field. Section III explains and describes symptoms.
