I stopped reducing and reinstated at a higher dose over two years ago when I had a series of very frightening nightmares.  Now I am trying again, beginning tomorrow morning.  The nightmares started at the 2.75 mg. dose of Valium, and I kept reducing (and having nightmares) down to 1.75 mg.

My plan this time is to reduce as low as I can until the nightmares happen (if they do), and then hold and reduce even more slowly.

Benzo buddies are invaluable.  I very much appreciate all the help earlier, and I hope that you will be here for me again.  I also do respond to other people when I think I have something knowledgeable to say.  Thank you.

Hi Julianna, updosing is something we need to do in case of psychosis treat so I would be not so worry about it if it helps. Slow tapering makes lot of sense as we know and doing it based on symptoms makes sense as well. I tried to follow Ashton schedule and it was fine in the beginning of my taper but then I decided to slow down in the end of the tapering. All the success with your new try!

You know as I get close to the end of my taper I have been having horrible nightmares. Every single night. They are vivid, scary and relentless. I guess my brain is trying to deal with things that maybe the benzo's covered up? I don't know but last night it was pretty bad. I get a break now and then but mostly just nightmares. I think they will pass in time.

Just try to do a slow taper and your brain will heal over time as you taper.

The wrong kind of nightmares can be a warning of a nervous breakdown.  Are they apocalyptic in nature?  If so, be careful.  I read that this is a harbinger of impending psychosis.  And I was very glad that I updosed.

I CT quit diazepam and wound up in a mental hospital. Two serious mental breakdowns later and losing my job have been quite humbling.

Now I can totally focus on recovery. Good luck to you!!

Julianna,

Blessings on your taper. You are very wise to have listened to your body.
